Default 3 inch DP with 2.5 Exhaust = Restrictive???

well i will be boosting in like a couple weeks to a month, depending on how funds go.Thing is i have a 2.5 DP but thinking about getting a 3inch, but my exhaust piping and muffler is a 2.5, i was wondering is anyone running with that set up? is it pretty restrictive according to tuning? if so i was thinking about either getting a 3inch DP and sticking with the 2.5 Exhaust or just sticking with the 2.5 DP and getting a Y pipe added on, or just get the 3inch DP with the Y pipe, so when it comes time to race just open it up, im not really wanting to spend more money on a 3 inch custom exhaust, if i was going to spend money on exhaust i rather use the money on a new/bigger DP, but just wondering if a 3inch DP with a 2.5 exhaust with a 2.5 muffler is really that restrictive, 1/2 inch makes that much of a difference??. TIA

Look at it this way:

2.5" = 4.9 inches squared

3" = 7.075 inches squared

If you can weld and fab, then you can make your own DP back 3"+ exhaust from companies like jegs/jcwhiteny,summit, for less than $200. And that's T304 stainless, you just have to do your homework and look around for best prices.

Yeah, but you need to factor in muffler and resonator(s) costs.

ill sum it up for ya reallll quick

hx35 on ls/vtec
15psi
ramhorn mani

w/ 3" open dp....hit full boost about 4200rpm
w/ 3" dp to stock exh...full boost at about 5k

it makes a difference....a big one...think the bigger the pressure differential the faster your turbo is gonna spool....and also help the motor exhale the fumes and suck in some new ones
