Default Transmission Lock-Up

I recently had an issue with my H22 tranny. I have a bad passenger side axle snap ring, so the axle can just slide in and out of the tranny freely. Unfortunately I didn't realize this until my shifter was near impossible to move laterally. I filled it with some 10W-40, and in about 15 miles it was back to normal. I hadn't tried reverse until now, and it will not go in. Its almost as if there is no position for reverse. Help...

Thanks,
Rob

you prolly should try to change the transfluild to the honda one. low viscosity oil can cause gear welding to the shaft. there is also a synchro for the reverse where 5th gear is. I had some issues before where the 5th/reverse selector ring (or whatever it's called I forgot) got all smashed up on reverse side from people bashing into reverse, that it would get stuck in the reverse synchro and not engage. This is hard to explain.

Anyways if fluid change doesn't help all you got left is to take it apart and hope for the best.

Thanks man. Went to Hybridynamics today and Denis told me the worst. He got in and said it felt like a bent shift fork. He said even bad syncros would still allow you to hit reverse, but it'd just grind. Can I buy shift forks separately? If so, where.

Thanks,
Rob

that's the same issue we had with the tranny that I'm talking about. Couldn't get it in reverse. If you let out the clutch it would grind if you tried to go in reverse. Bent 5th/reverse shift fork would mean that you 5th would be really short throw.

I think it's the synchronizer sleeve that you slammed. Well only way to find out is to take it apart. Have fun.
