Default do you have to buy rod bearings from honda?

someone told me that bearings from napa will not work, and that the bearings are color coded and you have to match the color codes up with the bearings from honda or some bs.

i just built a d16z6 and im putting it in my today, i heard about this and it upsets me. i bought a clevite rebuild kit from napa, i dont understand why it wouldnt work if they sell it. the plasti gauge tolerances came out perfect. i just hope they will work because there is no way in hell im tearing this motor apart again!!!!

thanks.

it all comes down to tolerances. if u know how to use the plastigage and it came ok. then ur cool. Most ppl just use green in all bearings and their engine runs fine.
YOU JUST HAVE TO CHECK TOLERANCES ALWAYS

But there really are color codes and matching.
If you search the forum you ll find what you need to know.

hey i appreciate your quick response. this just seems kind of shady that its not in the haynes or anywhere else about this. this was my first time doing plasti guage, my roomate who is experienced helped me out though. but when i did it it seemed like such a crappy way of measuring, that color gauge just doesn't seem precise. but from what i know they are in spec. im just wondering if this is something that honda does to keep their products bought from the dealership, just like torque-to-yeild bolts, which i have reused before.

so i guess using green is just like the normal tolerance? thanks a lot.

Is that white grease on the beam side of the rod bearing bore? Both the bearing and the crankpin need to be completely dry of any oil (or grease) before you check with plastiguage or your readings will be false, specifically they will show that they are tighter than they actually are. Your bearing clearance may be excessive if what I am seeing is correct.
