Ive got the stock intake box with highflow drop-in filter and a 3" integra arm..It probably makes more power then stock and is queit,,Never dynoed it though ,just going by the butt dyno..

AI is the ****!
CAI is good
Stock box is the best - just get rid of the resonator.

Put the battery in the back and get a 92-95 civic intake that's straight, and not the S bend crx piping.

no need for removing battery for a straight intake. i used my aem intake from my busted 92 prelude and cut it up alittle, connected it, added a new filter and there you go. not to helpful if you dont have stuff laying around but might give you an idea on what you could do. gave me alittle extra power at the top of the rpm range over the stock airbox w/o resonator.

I didn't have to relocate the battery or anything and I used a 88-91 EX/Si AEM cold air.

well of course not, aem makes their kits so that you only remove what you replace, for instance the intake. (except some k series i've heard.) Not to be a jackass but i was talking about straight intakes without the 's' bend to get around the strut tower and the battery. i'm sure that the aem cai has a few 's' bends in it.

but just out of curiosity what is the diameter of that intake. if it was made for the ex/si wouldnt it be about 2.25in??? that would call for a step-down coupler from the bigger b16a throttle body to the thinner intake reducing flow.

As far as I'm concerned removing the factory box, which is essentially a Cold Air Intake with it's pickup going to the front of the car, and replacing it with a short ram which sucks hot air from the engine bay is the silliest thing I've ever heard of. How do you know this gave you any power? Time slips before and after? Dyno numbers. An intake that gives you a gain of 1-2 hp @ 7800 rpms at a cost of hp at lower revs is a huge mistake. These intakes run very poorly in traffic and will even bog your engine due to heat soak in the summer. Have had the engine die at idle at stop lights. But that was my first intake 10 years ago, I think I've learned since then.

If you're buying anything first make sure it's a CAI. I was running the CAI made for the CRX with the stock engine, but I found it was too small a diameter and had a bunch of bends and too many rubber clamps. I relocated the battery to the trunk(one of the best mods to do for weight distribution) and put in a '99 Civic SI AEM CAI. Three inch diameter and runs straight from the front bumper to the IM in two slight bends.

Well when I had my old B16 hatch I dynod with the stock B16 intake and box with a K&N panel filter, then took off the box and gained 10 WHP. No **** either I have the sheets to prove it. On another note I took the exhaust off at the muffler and lost 15 at the wheels.

If you lose power in traffic who in the hell cares your not gonna be racing anyone even if you did lose power.

2nd do you really think the air temp inside the engine bay is gonna be the same when the car is moving?

are ITB's silly too?

CRX7,
for starters i was talking about power increase from removing stock box w/o resinator and installing the intake shown. i wasnt sugessting that escourt23 just remove his resinator. and no the stock intake is not a cold air, doesnt compare, nor does the resinator do anything but silence the intake. and no my engine doesnt overheat, or idle didnt change in traffic or out of traffic. and your question about power gains, noticable, very noticable. partically in 5th and above 5200rpms in any gear. with the stock box the engine actually bogged abit before i messed with the intake, no dyno or timeslip needed. ohh mpg increased also.

and the reason i dont use a CAI with the filter behind the bumber is becuase with this same intake in my prelude i was forced to use a bypass valve due to the huge puddles in my area and ended up with more crap going through that valve than i wanted.

Relocate the battery anyways. Looks cleaner too. When I relocated mine in my 89 SI, I got a short ram intake similar to Password JDM's power chamber for a 5th Gen Civic.
