Default Speedo not working and...

Car: 96 DX hatch w/ B18C5 swap, Hondata tuned.

Ok, I figure that speed sersor is bad, but here's some weird stuff. My gauge cluster, headlights, and taillights all start dimming. They don't go on and off, they just dim then get brighter, get dim, get brighter, etc etc etc. And just a few hours ago, I drove home from work and nothing was dimming, but the CEL came on. I haven't checked the code yet, gonna do that tomorrow morning.

A friend and I hooked up a volt meter to see if the alternator was ok, no probs there. Checked all the fuses, everything was fine.

Now, if the speed sensor is bad, that means VTEC will NOT engage, correct? Well, mine still does engage. How's that possible?

vtec wont engage over a certain MPH... with hondata you can bypass that! , thats prolly why yours is working since your hondata tuned!

I thought vtec was based on RPM's, what's it have to do with ur speed sensor?

yeah it activates at a certain RPM... but you have to be going over a certain MPH...get it? speed sensor has to do with mph.. signal to cluster etc.

In the last statement you made you said you have to be going AT LEAST a certain MPH, in the previous statement you said it won't work OVER a certain MPH, two conflicting? Or a wording error? Or it won't work below a minimum, and it won't activate above a maximum?

ok I see where you coming from.. vtec will work above 20mph which I read before... and came to the conclusion because I had speed sensors problems and I wanted an explantion to like you did when you asked why speed matters for vtec to engage
