I have a 92 civic cx hatch. today i decided to go to the bank after work, i got off for about 5 minutes and go back to my car. when i turn the key to the on position i knew that my car wasn't going to start, my fuel pump did not prime and my CEL came on and didn't turn off like it should. my car just cranked but didn't start. so i know im getting no fuel cuz the pump won't prime. its not my main relay cuz i have tried 3 different ones the last time this happen and it just did the same thing with all three (fuel pump won't prime and CEL stays on). I unpluged my main relay and turned the key to the on position and it did the same thing that it was doing, so i dont think its the main relay. then after about an hour and a half of messing with my car, i heard the fuel pump prime and my CEL turned off and the car started fine! What could be causing this. it keeps happening more often.

 

ive said this to many other people... try the crankshaft position sensor

 

why would that affect the fuel pump, and isnt the crankshaft position sensor in the dizzy?

 

 

the next time this happens you need to find the code for the CEL. This really sounds like a main relay but since you tried three different relays I'm not sure what the problem is.

 

i have tried that already, i jumped the 2 wire plug above the ecu and the CEL stayed on, didn't blink or anything. im almost sure that its not the main relay cuz i tested them on the car when it would start fine and they both worked, but yesterday when the car wouldn't start neither of the 2 would work. What else would give me symptoms of a main relay?

 

it effects the fuel pump because it cuz all power off to the fuel pump, and coil.

 

To test it im guessing i have to check the ressistance right? If so where should i check it, and what should it be? Thanks in advance if anyone helps

 

i also forgot to mention that once the car starts it runs perfect with no problem, this problem is only when trying to start my car.
