96 Accord EX: AC shuts off once car warms up. Bad relay or pressure switch?
Just like the title says, the compressor turns off once the car warms up. While it's blowing, its cold (about 40 degree's) but obviously when the conpressor shuts off it starts blowing warmer air.
So, I'm thinking it's something getting hott and shutting off the AC: Like an AC relay or the AC pressure switch (if my Accord even has one, I know most domestic cars do).
So, what can it be?
Tried to charge it, but the compressor wouldnt come on to suck up the freon, but the gauges said it was ok so I really don't think that's it.
Any suggestions on what it could be/what to check?

I had a 1999 civic that did this and it ended up being a ac compressor clutch something about when the clutch would warm up it wouldnt make proper connection between the pully and the compressor so it would just slip. When it happened I was much younger than and didnt know that much about cars so I didnt really pay attention when the dealer told me what had happened. Lucky for me it got fixed under warrenty.
ECU controls A/C clutch. It could be a bad relay or head unit or fan is not turning on or staying on.....
Where is the relay at?
And the head unit, whatcha mean?
And you mean the fans for the radiator that come on when the AC comes on? They come on and stay on as long as the AC is on: regardless if its blowing cold or not.

Jump the pressure switch connector when the problem is occuring and see if the compressor comes back on.
Wheres it at?
Actually, where can I go to just get diagrams on stuff so I won;t have to both pple w/asking?

OMG how freakin annoying this is.
I have no clue what it could be.
I drove a total of 18 hours to pick up my car (and get back home) the AC worked intermittantly* the whole way. I dunno what it is at all. I don';t think it's anything to do w/heat or a relay heating up, because I drove a solid 8 hours and it worked off and on.
Any more idea;s?

Well I guess nobody has anymore idea's on it. Well I havn't given up.
So, I've been searching. I've found out, that there is a manf.defect on the 96-97 accord as far as how some AC wiring is ran. It seems that the wire's rub against something and eventually short out: possibly causing a fire.
So, I called Proctor Honda in Tallahassee, Fl and I spoke w/a service tech there. He told me that it could quite well be the wire is shorting out and that's the source of my problem.
I had been there before so I was in the system and he checked my cars records and found the problem has not been addressed w/my car so he suggested that, even if it doesn't fix my problem, that I should most definetly have the work done.
SO, since it's a manf. problem, it's free of charge. My appointment is at 2:00 friday, so I'll update afterwards to let you know if that solved the problem.
I also highly suggest to my fellow H-T members that everyone w/a 96-97 accord call there local dealership and check to see if their car needs to have this particular recall fixed.
