Want to learn from a legend while only paying for the regisration of a community college class?
Attention Gearheads in the San Francisco Bay Area!
Beginning in April DeAnza College will be offering it's High Performance Engine Preparation, which it has been doing since the early 1970's.
The course is taught by world renowned camshaft engineer Demitri 'Dema' Elgin of D. Elgin Camshafts. Some of his best custumers include General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Nissan Corporation, Zakspeed International, Porsche Motor Sports, and "Winston Cup (Nextel Cup)" engine builders. He has the largest percentage of cams used at "Mid-Ohio" from GT-1 to Formula-V.
When Ernie Irvan won the Daytona 500 in 1991, he was running a D. Elgin Camshaft.
Dema was mentored by the great Ed Winfield. At one time, every car that ran at Indy had a Winfield cam and carburetor.
The only cost for the class is the cost of registration at DeAnza College, there is not a 'required' textbook although he has many books he can recommend and even ones he (or I) could recommend that are specific to your situation.
This is the last year the class will be taught so take it now! Dema is ready to retire. I guarantee you will walk away with more information than you thought possible. Every year I learn something new - I have taken the class 5 times so far, this year will be the 6th and I learn a ton of new stuff each year.
He has guest speakers each year.
One of the guest speakers will be Roy Howell, the head of product development and chief chemist of Red Line Oil. This man is not a salesman. He is a chemist and he is there to talk about oil and engines, whether it be Red Line or not.
There will also be a chemist from ERC racing fuels. Finally you can get those questions answered that everybody keeps asking on this board regarding gasoline, compression ratio, ignition timing, etc.
This class is highly recommended. Some of his former students include Steve Dinan of Dinan Engineering, the BMW tuner and Craig Watkins, chief engineer of Flying Lizard motorsports, among others.
This class will be held Mondays and Wednesdays starting April 10th. Even if the class is registered as full, come by anyway and we should be able to get you in.
This class is for people with all levels of knowledge. Don't think you don't know enough to take the class or that you will know everything that will be covered. There is always more to learn.
PM me or email me at scottrtucker@gmail.com with any questions.
Thanks.

I didn't know where the appropriate place would be to post this so I have just posted it in tech/misc. If there is a moderator that can make it a sticky in other forums please let me know.
