>HELP!< Finishing final drive install
Alright, I'm finally ready to finish this **** up and get the beast back on the road. I just installed a jdm fd and a new 3-4 synchro. I'm about to seal back up my tranny, and to be honest, since this is the most involved project I've ever undertaken automotive-wise, I'm scared shitless. Is all hell going to brake lose when I engage the clutch for the first time? Am I going to pull flywheel shrapnel out of my leg?
I've followed the helms pretty closely, checking all the specs and clearances I was able to. I finally got that damn snap ring in the groove, and i "screwdriver-shifted" through all the gears and it seems alright. Yay, now I get to pull it apart and spend another hour getting that damn case together (this time with hondabond on the case.) So before I do that, I thought I'd ask you guys for tips, warnings, advice, etc. so I come away with a crisp tranny and more acceleration.
I also have a couple concerns I hope someone can address:
1) The new first gear seems to seat awfully close to the final drive gear. I realize the shafts arn't in their fixed or locked position until that cover is on, but it's still got me worried. Is this normal?
2) When I pulled apart the tranny, I was short one of the magnets (still got one), and up about 4 inches (in several pieces) of 1mm thick metal wire, which appears to be a broken wire gasket of some sort. I have no idea what it is and where it came from. Any ideas? I think it would be alright to go without the other magnet, and use a magnetic drain plug instead (or filler plug).
3) May I reuse the circlips (I think that's what they are called), or the small metal rings on the tranny side of each half shaft that snap into the diff, or are they one of those things you should replace every time?
TIA h-t

first off, if it doesn't fit "dead nuts on", it wont fit together..... honda's stuff will 'just click'. make sure you align the tab on top of the mainshaft with the index in the top half of the case.
assuming you put on the spacer collar on the new countershaft, and you've installed the ring gear on the diff correctly, it should be cool.
huh? one of the magnets? up? there should only be one large magnet in the bottom of the case of the tranny. i'm not sure what direction you're talking about when you say 'up'... and thre shouldn't be any metal gasket in there. hondabond to seal that bitch back up.
that's your call. i've reused them multiple times. just make sure the splines are clean, and dab a bit of grease on there.

Are you sure? I seem to remember that there are 2 magnets in that one clip. I would make sure the missing one is not floating around inside your tranny.

D- I guess everything has clicked, but then again, it's my first time so, I wouldn't know any different. However, I made sure to remember to install both the friction damper AND turn the final drive bolts the correct direction

The metal gasket thing bugs the hell out of me though. It was all stuck to the magnet when I opened it up. I'd sure like to know wtf it be.
Yes, the small case that holds two identical magnets only has one in it. It is defintely not inside the tranny, because I checked 500 times.

That item is a (white?) rectangular case with two identicle square magnets.

By yourself? I was there for at least an hour, 2 days before Christmas in the 20 degree weather in the middle of a snow storm in the non heated metal shed. Oh thats right, I just watched
