It depends on which model '96 Accord Sedan you have, and it also depends on the tread width. Here is the best 15" size for each model:

DX 195/60-15
EX 195/60-15
EX V6 205/60-15
LX 185/65-15
LX V6 195/65-15

205/50-15 is much too small for a '96 Accord.

Careful, most of the 185/65-15s will not fit a 7" rim.

depends what year.

97 or older I'd go with 50.
98+ I'd go with 55

Keep in mind though, what your reccomended tire size is though. For example, your speed will be greatly affected when dropping from a 65 series to a 50 series.

Yes, that's why we are only dealing with 1996. We assume that user "96sedan" indeed has a 1996 accord sedan. We could be mistaken however.

No. Like nsxtasy says it depends on year and package. That and your recommendations are wrong in most cases. For example a 1997 accord sedan EX V6 has 205/60-15 as stock. A 2004 accord sedan DX 4cyl has 195/65-15 as stock. Most late models have 16" anyways.

You are right, going from a 65 profile ratio to a 50 profile ratio whilst keeping the same width will change the overall diameter and affect your speedometer, odometer, and acceleration. This is why it is important to go with what your car came with, aka "stock" or something of similar diameter. You can find this by looking on your door jam, there should be a little sticker there that will tell you what is stock for your car. Most internet tire dealers also have that information.

Again stock tire size is affected by year, model, and package. Check the sticker.

Those were the choices that I was given. I just told him what I would have went with.
