Need help modifying Distributor Cap for Jacobs ICE Ignition - 90 DA
I put this in the misc/tech form but didn't get the answers needed..
Well I've been having trouble with my igntion so I sent it back to Jacobs/Mr. Gasket for service, when I got it back they said the dist. cap I sent them was bad, they sent me a new OEM cap without the extra points, and 1 point (package with instructions and hardware to add 1 point for external coil) and decided to keep the jacobs cap (with 2 extra points for ex coil and 2nd trigger) I sent into them.
This is an big ordeal, Jacobs was recently was purchased by Mr. Gasket, so when it comes to any of their older style stuff they have no clue...
They said they don't make the cap anymore, MSD caps only have 1 external point hook-up so I guess I am stuck modifying.....
----------------------------------------------
Heres what I have now..
Brand new OEM style cap with no points for external coil or secondary trigger
1 extra point to be drilled into the cap for the external coil
The cap is supposed to have 2 external points, 1 point for external coil, and 1 point for a secondary trigger.
Now my question is can I just add a point to the middle of the cap for the secondary trigger just like the external coil point? I am asking because on the stock cap there is already something there.
Heres a pic of what I am tring to do... Look at the "Jacobs Modified Cap"

BTW: I'm installing this on a 90 Integra
If it doesn't make sense let me know and I will try again.
Thanks for any input

I have the ICE pack ignition, yes there should be 2 coil wires for this ignition. I've called many times, sent the entire thing in for service, their solution like I said was sending me an OEM cap and for me to figure out how to make it work.
They may be knowledgable on all the stuff that Jacobs/Mr. Gasket produced, but when it comes to the stuff that was made before Mr. Gasket bought the Jacobs company they are CLUELESS!
Here is a close up out of the instruction manual

i would try and get that Jacob's modified cap back. that seems like the key for the whole thing.
what puzzles me is where the second coil plug mounts right in the middle of the cap. there's no electrical pick up there, is there?
edit: okay. i'm going to take another stab at this. this system should run with an external coil style igntion, right? if that is the case, then the coil wire from the trigger goes to the honda coil, then the coild sire from the jacobs goes to the dist. cap plug. one dist. cap plug that way. otherwise, the electrics just don't make sense. but i keep seeing the "center tower" and "side tower" labels....
and for the love of pete, post pics when you get it running!! you'll like it. i've had an omnipak for years and it's aweseome.

They stuck a note in with the ignition when they sent it back from service that they damaged the old cap tring to modify a new one?? They aren't returning emails now so I guess getting my old cap back is out of the question.
There is a spring loaded pick-up of some sort right in the middle looking at the underside of the cap.
The system does work off of an external coil, its located on the bottom left corner of the illustration.
I had this igntion on my show car and loved it. It worked for 2 years and all of a sudden 1 day my car wouldn't start, for ***** and giggles I put the stock cap back on and disconnected the jacobs and the car started right up. After looking at it and not finding anything I sent everything to jacobs for testing.
I guess I really can't bitch too much. They gave this system to me for free through a sponsorship about 3 years ago. I just hate seeing it collect dust.
