Default Question regarding cylinder work

Ok, i have a mini me d-series and i am going to be boosting in soon and i use synthetic oil and i was told once your motor uses synthetic that your not suppose to switch back. now i planned on getting my cylinders re honed and turbo pistons and rods put it. so that would mean that i wouldn't want to use synthetic right away to make sure everything seats right (according to http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm ) so would it be ok to use regular oil in my motor for the first 3k miles or so or what do i do? i also saw this http://www.vpracingfuels.com/B...BAAD7 can someone tell me what i should run once i get my pistons in so that i can have a proper break in and not break anything, thanks

Correct. Start with ND30 (i.e. non-detergent straight 30 weight) for the initial start. Let the car warm up for 20 minutes or so while you adjust the timing and check for coolant/vacuum leaks. Then turn the car off, drain the oil, and refill with regular weight non-synthetic. Drive on that for about 1000 miles, then drain it and refill with synthetic. You can then run synthetic from then on out.

What you heard about not being able to go back to regular mineral oil once you have started using synthetic is a myth. You can mix the two together if you want.

You shouldn't use synthetic when breaking in your rings or they may not seat properly. The increased lubricity of the synthetic oil will not allow the crosshatch pattern on the cylinder wall to 'hone' the rings to the shape of the cylinders of your engine and they will not seal properly. Break-in time depends on your driving habits but is somewhere between 500 and 1000 miles. After that period you can start using sythetic if you want.
