Default transmission problem

Hello first time posting and hoping somone can help me with solving my tranny issues.

I have a '94 civic Lx automatic tranny. just recently my tranny seems to be slipping. my car will reach about 25 mph then the revolutions will just rise but it wont grab the next gear. car has about 160K miles.

also wondering what kind of ATF does it use that I can buy at a local autoparts store if any

thanks in advance for any help

Usually when it slips, its caused by a lack of tranny fluid. I would say go OEM and go to the dealership for the fluid, or make sure its compatible with what is already in there.

Yea..same as he said....probably needs to have a bit more added...but best just to change it all out. Use oem if you want...i dont and have any problems.

Dextron III should work, it's what all major quick lube shops use for automatic tranny's unless it requires some type of friction modifier, and I don't think Honda's do. To be safe, and to get the good stuff, just get it from the dealer.

I changed the transmission fluid today. the oil was black, like it hadnt been changed in a while. the plug had some metal shavings on the magnetic part.

There was no improvement. The transmission still slips even driven too long neither gear will grab. they all feel like neutral.

I replaced the tranny fluid with the Honda dealer stuff.
let me know what u guys think

if its that bad, you can either get a transmission flush (hook up machine to your trans and pressurize it) or just get a new trans now. Sounds like you may have let it go way too long on bad fluid.

new auto trannies are like 50 bucks. They're cheap cause no one wants them. I guess its to ur advantage.

Are you sure you put enough back in it? You should check it while the engine is off.
