Default drilling 4x100 wheels to 4x114

i seen people and shops do this, is it safe and will it affect treadwear/tirelife and/or balance of the wheel?

What they do is insert them. to the specific bolt pattern you want.

I would never do that. Or if I did, it would always be in the back of my mind and I would never be able to relax when tearing around. It's just kinda hooptie.

Why don't you get an adapter, like 4x11.3 to 4x100.

wheelchoice.com can get pcd changers in 10mm....they go from 4x114>4x100 wheels.

they are only 10mm thick so they don't change the offset very much.

they sell sets of 4 wheel adapters all over ebay for under $150 for all 4 but they are like 25mm-30mm wide which will afect yer offset more drastically.

wheels spacers/adapters will not affect balance unless you use the wrong lug nuts

experienced and well qualified machinsts can either widen the wheels bolt pattern holes(depends on the closeness) and install inserts in the holes or they can 8/9 hole the wheels but the back of the hub has to be flat for strength/integrity or they can do a fill & drill and this is when they fill all the holes w/metal and redrill to your desired bolt pattern.
