Doo Wop Rally Series Production Class Honda 1-2-3
The local father and son team of Ed (Co-Driver) and Kris (Driver) Dahl took home first place honors this weekend in a production class Acura Integra at the Doo Wop Rally Series in Southwest Washington state. The team picked up 4 class stage wins on the way to finishing 12th overall and was the second highest placing two wheel drive vehicle (out of 21).
Mark Tabor / Kevin Poirier in an Acura RSX Type-S finished Second and Cody Crane / Mark Keith rounded out the podium in a CRX.

The two-day race covered 240 miles, including 13 high-speed timed competitive "special stages" over 99 miles consisting mostly of unpaved logging and forrest roads. Rally races are run rain or shine and the Doo Wop Rally Series featured gravel roads, as well as some sections of closed-off paved roads. The teams had to contend with mud, snow and ice in addition to dry gravel and asphalt roads.
The Dahls reached speeds of nearly 100 mph and averaged nearly 60 mph on several of the off-road gravel stages. The team also averaged over 69 mph on the high speed asphalt stages.

Good turnout and a tarmac stage, huh? Cool.
Kirk (who misses Doo Wops - even the ones after the original diner closed)

Yeah great turnout, lots of competition. Was really outstanding, and fun event as always.
They started a couple of tarmac stages last year, I had a blast on them. Do well on tarmac may have to get out to Rally New York, Targa Newfoundland or that one you did (Tennessee was it?).

I'm pretty sure the first rally I ever photographed was the 1988 or 89 Doo Wop. Rod Millen kicked everyone's *** and Jeff Zwart won his class and his very first event. Zwart, a big time car photographer, got my photos published in half a dozen national magazines and I began the path to a new career. Good memories. No regrets.
The Rally TN roads were freakin' magnificent. I WILL do that event again, but not in something that I've invested as much time as I have into the new shell. I'm thinking a MkII Golf with a MkIII 2.0 drivetrain and some other parts-bin improvements...

Are you planning on running any events East of Colorado? I'm going to run STPR, Rally TN, and LSPR this year with the ITR. Rally TN sounds nice. I wanted to do Rally NY which is all pavement, but the entry fee was a bit much + having to buy pavement tires.......

Don't think we're going to go any further east than Lauglin this year.
I'd love to do Rally New York or Rally Tennesee. I don't recall the entry fees being all that crazy (relatively), and we have to buy new tires no matter what surface. It is the travel costs that kill us.
LSPR should be a fun one too.
Best of luck with the race season. What class you run in?
Cheers,

The car was new for SnoDrift, G2.
I hav'nt done squat to the engine yet, but if I can stop working for the man for long enough, I can spend some time on it.....

LSPR, STPR, SnoDrift, Cherokee Trails, Maine, all good times.
