Default I've always felt different...with the help of TV I'm finally starting to figure it out...

No, I'm not talking about being special in the sense of owning a Type-R for instance. That's nice to be sure, but not on the order of x-ray vision. I need alot of correction just to even see my Rrrrrrr.

Yeah, yeah, I've seen that movie with Ben Stiller where all the super hero's have decidedly non-super powers. I've been harnessing the power of negative thinking for years - the power of Captain Furious I definitely have. Many a file cabinet drawer has felt my fury.

No, my special power is in league with my ability to travel thru time. But I'm not just another one of those guys who travel back in time to set right what once went wrong. I can only travel forward in time. But I'm uniquely able to carry a problem or situation into the future with me the better to solve it when human technological evolution catches up.

The temporal-tele(scopic)-transportation device is deceptively simple - externally resembling a common set of jackstands. Now don't you go thinking I'm just rationalizing procrastination, distraction, and disipation. That's just the cloak that conceals my special power.

One of the hardest parts of any such power is controlling it. I've got to admit that once or twice maybe I've gotten a little out of control and "overacheived". In fact I find myself in such a situation now.

Thank goodness I'm not one of those guys that bets the whole farm on just one super power. In my spare time I boned up on Prioritization for just such a contingency. Ok, it wasn't easy. At first that just meant adjusting the top of an ever growing list.

But in time I added the third leg of the stool on which the thinking (or welding) racer may find himself: the greatest power of them all: the "No".

No - I will not trade a fractional performance benefit for an exponential increase in complexity, unreliability, or cost (no matter how compelling it is!)

No - I will not get all caught up in the competitive fever that drives an otherwise relatively sane man to destroy himself financially in a futile attempt to beat a richer and faster racer. I cleverly built a car for a class without real competition to preclude just such a possibility - pretty smart if I do say so.

No - I will not sell the race car and build another one. While not smart enough not to build the first one, I'm too smart to build another. Besides - I'm not done with this one yet.

Scott, who still can't say "No - I will not spend the evening watching Bruce Campbell movies and writing a post on Honda-Tech"...

Bruce Campbell is special, er, different, too. The Evil Dead trilogy is still by far my favorite horror/comedy. Just watch out for the boom stick.

Nope - not me. I started out further back in time than that guy with a completely different but almost as embarassing hair style.

Scott, who now pays good money for a hairstyle that used to make him cry when he was a little kid..."I'm telling you - this super power of mine is easy to underrate"...

Scott, who figures he's smarter than Casey when it comes to time travel - got more experience...

Joo know - when you say it like that it sounds like you're trying too hard.

"It's ok...we understand...uh-huh, just a couple tenths you say you need...you've Got the talent...that motor needed a rebuild anyway...still got some room left on the card!"

I watched "Murderball" last night. Its a documentary about paraplegic rugby.

Thats right. They play full contact rugby in wheel chairs.

Yes Virginia, this club racing thing IS a hobby.

Hobby, hobby, hobby...what's that really mean though.

It's not just a frivolous way to pass the time.

Some people put their heart and soul into it.

For some it's the only outlet in their lives that they give that much to - or that can take that much from them.

Sure, some of us "keep it in perspective" and know where the line is and not to cross it. But THAT is different for each of us, and since you'd expect the distribution to be normal there will be a fair number out there in the deviations. Or at least one deviation away from you - enough to prompt a cry of foul in the event of some perceived excess.

Rollerball? Just a hobby.

Deathrace? Just a hobby.

<shhhhhh> "It's really SHOW BUSINESS"

Scott, who is the leading man in his own racing adaptation of Army of Darkness...

So what about those of us who have three unfinished cars?

I do own all three BTTFs.... hmmm.... did you know the set they built of Hill Valley for the third movie was.... burned down by a lightning strike?

Andy - who was very disappointed the first time he pushed his first car, a 1985 Accord, past 88 miles an hour.

I certainly don't have the room in the "shop". It seriously cuts down on my quality jackstand time.

"I've gotta get this thing off the stands so I can put the other one on!"

Some day...when I can afford my dream shop...there won't be ANY jackstands...all the cars will reside on an observation deck so that I can walk underneath them at leisure in my smoking jacket and floppy ear bunny slippers....Someday...

Scott, who doesn't want to give Andy too little credit...but - have you considered just getting More Jackstands???

Oooo.... I have ramps!

But, alas, my Hitleresque HOA frowns upon my completely innocent hobby of jackassstandery when it's placed in my driveway.

Some people put their heart and soul in stamp collecting, but its still just stamp collecting.

I've put alot of time, money and labor into my racing efforts, and I really like to win and I really like to have one of the nicest cars out there. But... Its still a hobby.
Its a hobby that can kill you.
But its still a hobby.

Stamp collecting can kill you too. If you do it while eating raw chicken, in a hurricane, while juggling razorblades.

Scott, who tries not to think about this stuff too much, at least less than the other Scott, which appears to set that bar pretty low.
