Default Dinan ecu (searched)

I have recently installed a dinan ecu my buddy got for me since I just finished my auto-manual tranny. Does anyone know anything about it, or what exactly it does since it seems I have no redline and I think I might me running lean?

Yes, but the ecu is clearly tuned by dinan and when I took it in to the shop, the mechanic said that dinan did work on honda's at one point.

I know they exist, but don't know anything about it really. If I were to take it out how could I compare it to a stock ecu?

"BMW enthusiasts seem to be a very loyal breed. They really like to spend money on their cars. We used to make ECU upgrades for Japanese cars, but we don’t anymore. You can tell the difference between buyers within five minutes on the phone. The knowledge of cars on the part of BMW owners is higher, the amount of money they’re willing to spend is higher, the number of BMWs they’ve owned is usually greater, whereas it’ll be the guy’s first Honda. We decided that BMW owners were our core customers and decided to stick with that. We’ve been exclusively BMW for more than two years now."

I've got one of these, when I got it the car was almost stock, no dyno before and after however. Butt dyno? It's hard to say, but I believe it did pick up some power above 5k. It did smoothen out the VTEC transition some as well.

It raises the redline/fuel cutoff to 8100 from 7400. I liked that part, if for nothing else, to be able to stay in VTEC when shifting from 1st to 2nd.

I tried to email them about a week ago and got no response. I also noticed it is really really lean at idol.

You can very easily do that with the stock ECU. Plus, there is no reason to rev that high if you aren't making power up there. It's also kinda risky with the stock valve train...

they don't support the product anymore, they stopped working on the Honda stuff 5+ years ago.

I always "fall out of vtec" from 1st to 2nd in my 5th gen. But that's neither here nor there when dealing w/ this thread.

I would be wary of running an ECU that has different maps then stock if you don't know what those maps are. You have no idea how the timing & fuel maps were created, or what mods they were created for. Be careful.

I spoke with the head tech of Dinan in California. Of course as we all know they havn't done Honda for about 5 years. They sold the chips and rights to another company who is now out of business. So it looks like we are all in the dark unless someone out there knows somthing we don't.

Is it an OBD1 chip? If so, do you know anyone that has an eeprom burner/reader? You could always post the maps on pgmfi.org & have someone check into it for you....

I don't but I'll post up on DragVa.com (Viringia forum) and ask someone if they can get the maps off of it and I'll post em up. The chip is in a P28 and is a D930--301C chip.

Yes, you can if your quick and slip the clutch a little, or bounce it off the rev limiter before you shift, but that's not reality.

The only thing I had a problem with that Dinan chip and shifting that high was the Auto tensioner failed on me, but it sounds like that happens to a lot of people. Spark plugs looked perfectly brown.

I have a Crower Stage 2 cam with springs and retainers now, and with the manual tensioner, and its nice if you want to stay in VTEC to use those 700 more rpms of higher rev limiter.

Why anyone would throw an ecu into a car that's not specifically tuned for it is beyond me.

Did Dinan tune this chip specifically for your car?

I have a serialized Dinan Computer chip as well. I compared it to stock and it appears to be deisgned around a bonestock h22a1, with slightly leaner fuel maps up top, very slight changes in timing and extended rev limit as well. not bad for a bone stock car.
