wheel/tire sizing for 1985 CRX Si - Solo 2 WCMA/CSS rules
Hi Guys,
I just purchased a 1985 CRX SI for Solo 2.
Being from Western Canada, my club uses the Western Canadian Motor Association (WCMA) rules. Our rules and classes are slightly different than the SCCA rules. We have a class between Stock and Street Prepared, called Super Stock, that allows mainly allows constrained handling mods and minor power mods. In trying to compete in this class, I am trying to follow the tire/wheel guidelines, which summarized states that:
When viewed from directly above the fender opening, perpendicular to the ground, no portion of the tread at the top of the tire , may be visible…basically, the tires should not protrude past the fenders.
I obviously want to put as much down as much tire (R compounds) as possible, while staying within the rules and using a 13” wheel.
Any suggestions on wheel / tire combinations that can do this. I wanted to go 13 x 7, but have concerns that this will lead to tire protrusion.
I have searched quite a bit for a solution on the net, but can’t find much info, because of our localized rules.
Thanks in advance.
David

Good choice of car! I have 3 '85 Sis, including one Honda Challenge racecar.
Although I don't have an answer for you, I would check out the forums at http://www.redpepperracing.com/

Offset (or backspacing) and camber will be your friend. I'd say you can probably get away with a 215-50-13 on a 13x7 with 5.25 to 5.5" backspacing and some neg camber (camber plates are allowed in SS if i recall, and are available for your car from OPM). You'd need to get custom wheels for those backspacing requirements.
Thanks Guys,
Unfortunately camber plates will bump me into SP…I’m not ready to run there yet.
Lots to learn...but it's fun!!!
