Default Contact Patch

Are there big (or any) advantages to be gained as far as tire contact patch by putting a 205 tire on a 6.5" wheel versus a 6" wheel?

Yes, more stability laterally from the sidewalls being at a more vertical angle, less excess sidewall roll. Over 7.5" and you're getting outside the envelope.

You get the benefits Gary mentioned, but it doesn't have to do with contact patch, just sidewalls
