hey guys, my cars engine has been messing up badly over the past few months, and i dont like the fact that it is auto. i am starting to wonder if i should sell it and get a hatchback or another CRX and start fresh. my car is very clean from what i've heard, but i don't know if it is worth all the time to fix everything thats needed to be fixed, or if i should just sell and get another car and then start saving up money for swaps. Also, if i do decide to keep it, would it be worth it to do auto -> manual conversion, ive put over $3k in car and i am selling it for $2k, i have talked to many people about it and they all want to buy! what should i do??? thnx for opinions

The CRX that I have owned the longest was an automatic I drove the thing till it died then i picked up 2 Si parts cars and put in the Si motor and tranny and also did the auto to manual swap wasnt too difficult and i have learned lots in the process i have owned it for 8 years now and only reason I might get rid of it is for a cleaner one BUT I wouldnt sell it until AFTER I have a different one just cause you never know.
I say keep it and do some learning on it.
oh and 8 years ago I bought mine for $3700
and with the parts cars I was actualkly paid to put the better seats and door panels and motor and tranny in since i made my money back and then some on them

Depends on what you want to do with it. I was hell bent on a B16 swap when I was first looking at swapping then I got the A6 ( stock Si motor) and was ok (yeah just ok) with it for the time being now im building a sohc vtec turbo motor i have a b16 hatch so now i want a turboed d-series I can honestly say way back when when swaps costed no less than like 4 grand for a b16 im glad i never did it cause what you could do to a sohc with 4 grand would blow away a stock b16 for the same amount of money. dont get me wrong b-series are nice (had a b18 crx) and the torque was great but still gotta love the cheapness of a d-series...lol

Yep indeed, great way to put it. I sold my blue turd civic and i often time regret it, same thing with my old colt. I was just told to name my price on my samurai the other day, and I told the guy, I can't sell it. I get attached to vehicles badley. at my rate I will have 20 cars by the time I'm 35 and all of them will have been made in the late '80s.
Actually I made a promise to my self, the next car I'm getting is an e46 m3. So I can't buy anymore '80s **** for awhile. Seriously I have a 88 Civic, a 88 Samurai, and my 89 CRX. Chances are the civic will die from use, the other two I will take to the grave.

Got you beat Bart (scary huh, from a guy with no Honda's a few years back) 88 CRX, 90 CRX, 91 CRX, 1981 Honda GL500, 65 Mustang, 95 F-250 PSD, 96 Civic, 98 Vulcan 1500. I'm with Bart I get attached, and my next vehicle will be something 95 or newer for running appointments in.

don't sell it man, any other Ef you buy is most likely gonna need alot of work too, not just yours, its just the way it goes, the newest ef chassis is 16 year old car almost. I'm finding myself slowing restoring my rex, not my original intent, but if i want to keep driving it its what i have to do. keep it man, show it some love, 10 years from now they are gonna be almost none of these cars left on the road, i say bring it back to life or you may end up swimming in the lake of fire
If the car is clean and straight, then by all means keep it! Finding a clean CRX that has not been involved in some kind of accident is becoming more and more impossible with each passing day. By contrast, dealing with something like an engine that doesn't run or an automatic transmission is small potatoes. If you do a manual transmission swap, you will likely look at your car in a completely different way.

i've decided not to sell
how long would it take to do an auto -> manual swap? and is it difficult? i've read some write-ups on it but i was just wondering how long it would take to do because i dont have much time because it is my only car

Depends on how much you know and how badly you want it done...mine took like 4 months but then again i completely stripped my car down took out the original chassis harness swapped it with an Si one did my heater core did a bunch of interior swapping did my suspension my motor and tranny and also put in everything on the floor from a manual one so you cant even tell my car use to be auto so it even has that little inner rubber boot with that metal plate and the metalplate up front where it covers up where the other lines went.

Our fathers always talk about there sweet cars that they used to have and they wish they still had.... That will be us someday if we start selling our CRX's
