Default 6th Generation question

I might be getting a 6th generation Accord EX (2000) Automatic transmission soon and I researched the 6th gen guide that's stickied. I read that there are possible the following problems:

a. Differential bearing failure- usually indicated by the axle seals leaking
b. 2nd gear clutch pack failure- usually indicated by lack of second gear, excessive slipping in other gears, car redlines before shifting, delayed shifting (car hold current gear way longer than it should.

My question is: If those issues arise, what will happen to my car? Will I still be able to drive it? How can I judge if teh car is safe from these dangers when I test drive the car? THanks for the help!

look for the gears not catching quick like going from reverse to drive to drive to reverse, also look for how smoothly the gears shift, just simple things like that should tell you right away weather the transmission is in good shape.

Considering the age of the car, if it shifts fine, will it be still prone to those defects?

if the trans is prone to failure it will usually happen well before 100K

My trans was toast at 89K

There is one thing that you need to remember about the 6th gen cars. When they are cold, they will hold the gears longer and delay the lockup function of the TQ converter until the engine has reached proper operating temp.

I have noticed on my car that it takes about 2-3 miles of regular driving before engine warms up and everything runs normally. I live in a cold part of the country.

Thanks for the help, I just have one more question:

If those issues arise, what will happen to my car? Will I still be able to drive it?

Yes, but it usually won't be long before the transmission will require maintenance. The auto transmission in my 98 Accord has been slipping since September and I still drive it daily. I could find myself with an undriveable car at any time though
