Default Totaled my Turbo Prelude (Pics)

I feel like I've let the Honda community down by destroying a 5th gen Prelude. This car was my pride and joy and I hate to let it go, but it is just a car and I'm happy not to be hurt. I've always been a responsible driver and this is my first major accident since I've been driving (I'm 24).

I don't want to go into specifics right now, but I ended up on my roof in a ditch. It was me and a friend in the car and both of us only had a few scratches.

Try not to cry looking at the pictures

The mileage was kind of freaky

I don't post a whole lot, but I appreciate all the help from the Prelude forum over the years, and maybe I'll be back if I get another Prelude, but I think I might go with a WRX (I'm married and could use the 4 doors for future additions to the family )

RIP Turbo Lude

Makes me sad, but good thing you're still alive.

Your mileage has the mark of the beast..weird..

WRX would be coo for the family, backseat room looks kinda small though.

I might try to buy it back if it's cheap enough so I can part it out.

I've seen MANY of these types of posts. I busted one dude who said he lost control of his M3 when he shifted into the next gear when it was icy out. After asking the right questions, it turned out he was racing an SLK32 and lost control.

That's why I NEVER reply with a sympathy post until I know the story. If it happened because of negligence, NO sympathy from me.

Glad you're ok also - looks pretty bad.

Is this a bad time to ask if you're parting her out?

Uh - airbags didn't pop?.........
I guess its that impact switch.....only deploys on head-on collisions. That sucks man.

Why is this exactly? Is it unsafe for the airbags to deploy in other situations? Looks like he rolled pretty bad, I would think it would be good if the airbags went off.... dunno.

Well the impact switch is some magnetic thing - with a magnesium ball in it I believe. In a front-end impact, the ball moves foward(the only way it can move) - and it 'closes' the circuit.

I guess they have it like this for insurance purposes - because airbags cost a lot of money. A LOT!

If they didn't have it like this, a minor rear end collision would set off the airbags.

Flipping the car is just an accident that we all hope to avoid.

Thanks for the support everyone

I wasn't racing anyone for those wondering, just out driving - no other cars were around. And I may part it out if I can buy it back cheap enough. I'll probably hold on to the turbo stuff for a while in case I test drive a WRX and decide I want another Prelude

The tarp was on the car because it was snowing and both windows/sunroof are busted out. The other side isn't quite as bad, just a little crumpled on the side.

Ahhhhh, this is starting to sound familiar. HAHAHAHAHA "Just driving around" doesn't end you up upside down in a ditch.

Thanks for wasting a perfectly good Prelude.
