icon to me is more just basic street riding, helmets, jackets and gloves.

A* is race bred stuff.

Not monetarily at least. I dont have first hand experience with Icon, but it seems to be "bling" more then anything.

Well here in my 40k pop town 4out of 5 guys have ICON. I've had mine for 3 years now and love it just hate how everyone seems to be getting it here. I got it to be different but there are 5 other Timax jackets like mine. I also have teh mainframe helmet and no complaints from it. I just went and tried the stuff on adn loved the way if fit and didn't have the $ to get a Aria lid so........

exactly, but the comment i was responding to made it seem as if "Icon" stuff is "cheap" in monetary terms something i disagree with. There are some Icon products that i would consider kinda expensive for what you get since they are about the same price as much more "reputable" companies.

When I think of Alpinestars, I think of r&d through racing, functionality, and Italian quality & design.

When I think of Icon, I think of the streets, stunting, everyday gear, looking cool.

I'm sure that both are decently protective but I'd trust in A* r&d over Icon's.

i agree with your last statement.

and aesthetically, even though Icon is goin for the "bling" look ... i still think a* looks better.

Nice website. Well put together.

Scion + Kawasaki =

I've tried on Icon gear and A* gear. The feel of the jackets and gloves are similar. The Icon helmets are inexpensive, but they don't fit my head. The lining does not feel as plush as, say Shoei or Arai, but the price is hard to beat.

Icon advertises their gear as street-oriented. If I was doing mild commuting I'd go for Icon. It's less expensive. Anything at higher speeds (canyon carving or track riding) and I'd pick the A*. FWIW, I've had A* gloves that started to come apart in only a few months of use.

And I forgot to mention I went down with teh cheapest pair of ICON gloves they have forgot the name and they got beat up but my hands were perfect unlike the 16 stitches in my face for not wearing my lid on my 10 min ride to the store. I have friends that went down also wearing the jackets etc and the **** held up just fine and saved them. Yes it's for the street which the advertise and yes it's more Blingy but some is just smooth and simple which is what I got. I like my gear like my bike stickerless and graphicless.

ICON = Appearance first, safety second.

Alpinestars = Safety and Appearance

I think most Icon gear is garbage. I have their SuperDuty boots, they're cool boots but they wont protect me much in a crash.

A* > Icon

i really can't compare riding gear by riding gear but A* seems to be a lot better quality.

I have the A* TZ-1 jacket and its GREAT stuff. very comfy, lot of protection, and for being leather it breathes very well in the heat and keeps me plenty warm when its freezing cold out.

i also have the Icon Mainframe helmet Its actually really comfortable and doesn't have any weird pressure points. BUT! it seems kind of cheap. i left it in the car one day when it was hot/sunny out (shouldn't have done it in the first place) but when i came back, some of the glue had loosened up and the vents on top had shifted. also one of the vents got a dimple in it.

And i'm sure it doesn't only work that way with Icon helmets, and is consistent in the rest of their gear. So... as i said [b]A* > Icon

I love my icon stuff too.. mainframe and a neo daytona hero jacket... alpine stuff is obvyosly good... but whenever i think of them i think of racing applications and moto X and stuff... Icon has my vote for street though.. good comfortable stylish stuff

Yeah I know..Now I wear that thing anywhere I go. I just don't feel right without it. Always wear the lid even if it's a quick trip to teh store or something you might end up like me.
