Swap axle length problem? EF B16A YS1-LSD
I used the hasport mount kit with a b16a, ys1-lsd tranny into my 90 ef.
I have a vibration coming from the driver side after slamming on the brakes just after the install. At the time it had an old pair of stock struts with springs from an 87 civic. I noticed a big drop in height after installing the b16 and I think something may have broken when I hit the brakes. Since then I have put back my stock Si springs, the vibration went away for the most part... then I cut two coils to see what would happen and the vibration started again but less. (This is all actually after I was sent an avid mount kit that had parts for an ef and eg combined and actually got it installed and running before I noticed and swapped them for correct ones!!!)
So I guess I am stumped as to whether or not the driver side axle may be too long?? How can I tell what mid-shaft I have?? I have read to use the 86-89 driver side axle with a y1 mid-shaft, but how to tell the difference between that and the other (S1, J1, A1, YS1)???? Something else I'm missing?? It has 90-93 teg axles on both sides right now that are equal length, but no problems on the pass side.
Please help, this is my daily driver and I don't have a garage to spend lots of time diagnosing!!

If you received a JDM "Y1" intermediate shaft with your B16, its the oddball one that is longer than the others and will cause your driver's side axle to be too compressed or not fit at all.
What you need is one from a 90-93 U.S. Integra, or from a JDM B16 that came with the S1, J1, or YS1 trannies. Not the JDM CRX SIR with the "Y1" tranny!

I have the YS1 tranny... so it sounds like you're saying that is what I should have received... which brings us full circle to asking how to tell which mid-shaft is which?
I wouldn't say that the driver's side installed any harder than the passengers. Any one know the axle length of a 86-89 integra and the length of a 90-93 integra? Anyone have or know where to find 86-89 integra manual online?

So you have a OBD1 Japan spec B16a with a YS1 tranny out of a Integra XSI? If you do, than you have the more common intermediate shaft like the U.S. 90-93 Integras.
Its the JDM B16's that came in the Japan CRX SIR's that have the oddball "Y1" intermediate shaft.

Off the knuckles? Or the hub? I haven't removed either and don't know what a dust ring is. Any specifics as to what it is called in the manual?

It's OBD0 JDM B16 from an xsi, not OBD1. Unfortunately I will have to switch over for CA smog.

Well, judging from the information you gave, I assume you had a OBD1 B16 XSi engine combo because the OBD0 B16 XSi's came with the S1 or J1 cable trannys.
You must have got your OBD0 engine and your YS1 LSD tranny separately.

Actually I bought them combined, all parts from jspecautosports. I actually expected to receive a Y1 LSD, but ended up with the YS1. Not sure what you mean by a "OBD1 B16 XSi engine combo"... It is a OBD0, so I'm assuming that you mean they swapped the tranny before shipping, which would be my guess too.
But I still haven't gotten any firm answers as to the axle length problem.
Is it possible that I received a JDM B16 out of a CRX that had the Y1 int. shaft and they put the YS1 tranny on not thinking that I would need different driver/passenger axles?? That I guess is my real question. If the int. shaft says SH3, do I need a different driver axle... if so, what axle????
Anyone??

I didn't see your answer to this in the above message. This is a necessary step on BOTH drivers and passengers sides. It's the metal ring between the axle and the hub. Pull the axle off the knuckle/hub and on the inside where the axle mates to the hub there is metal ring attached to the hub which is about 2-3" in diameter. Take if OFF and put the axle back in the hub/knuckle without it.

Thanks for the response. Can you explain why they should be removed? From what I have gathered, removing these will cause my wheel bearings to go.. hence the term "dust" ring. They prevent dust from entering the bearings. Why wouldn't they just recommend custom axles if 90-93 didn't fit correctly. I also would like to know if the 86-89 axles are shorter. This would, in theory, correct this problem. But no one has been able to confirm this and I can't find a teg manual from those years

Removing these allows the axle to fit closer into the hub essentially giving the axle more room. Get used to things being not fitting quite right with this swap. Even with the dust shields removed I used to still get some binding noise with new axles on acceleration.
Have had mine off for 2 years now, no issues.. well, I have switched hubs since but it had nothing to do with the axles.
Yes, the 86-89 are shorter but the splines don't fit, this is where Hasport and raxles come in, they use 86-89 axles with 90-93 cup ends to make a hybrid axle, then charge you a bunch of money. Trust me, don't by hasport axles, if you have a Y1 intermediate shaft, throw it away and buy a 90-93 LS int. shaft and get some cheap autozone axles you can replace cheap when you mess them up.

I try to be right 99.9999 % of the time.....hehehehe.
You guys are lucky though. When I started doing swaps before it was the "craze", I didnt have access to the information that is available today. Less people were doing it back then, so my resources were limited.
My shop has been doing many EG, EK swaps in the past few years because all the EF's here in MN are rusting out!! hehehehehe

Trust me, I know. I researched my entire project over 3 months, only on the internet. I don't know anyone that has done this swap personally. Did the whole swap in a week... (would have been a couple days, but I was sent the eg mount kit
and wasn't aware until the project had started
... had to wait for parts, etc.) and only had a problem with the axles and the knock sensor which turned out to just be the wire working it's way out of the connector.
