Fuel Pump Install- Please Help!
Hey everyone,
I am replacing the electric fuel pump on a 88 accord. I decided to go with the universal fuel pump because of the price difference. On the universal I have to cut, splice, and connect the + and - wires to the new pump's connector lugs.
My question is: The power connections on the top of the fuel pump will be submerged in the fuel tank... this doesn't seem safe to me. Is it ok to have these connections submerged in gas?
I am afraid to start the car! Please help!
Thanks so much!

I'm no expert on this type of stuff. But I think if there was any chance of something going wrong (explosions, and such). They wouldn't put the pump in the tank.
Your installation can be done successfully if you adhere to several points (and remember one very important fact.
*Liquid fuel will not burn, gas fumes explode
1) Solder the wires together as opposed to using wire crimps. Soldering ensures they won't make/break connection causing sparks (bad)
2) Seal the connections with lengths of neoprene vacuum tubing 1/8" ID and several nylon zip ties. Do NOT use electrical tape or shrink tubing (they "melt" in gasoline (Bad)). The neoprene tubing is neutral to gas and will insure that the spliced joints will not short inside the tank.
