Girlfriend put cheap gas in my car
I got in my car the other day and noticed it was knocking really loud. I got pissed because my girlfriend was the last one to drive it. She told me she put reg ampm gas in it. would this make the car knock, or is it another problem. I always run chevron or shell prem in it and have never had a problem. I am not to familiar with internal problems, can anyone tell me how to get rid of my knocking? Its been bad for a month now. sounds like VW or somthing loud.
i have never heard of anyone putting regular in a car that needs premium. i put super (the middle one - 89 octane) in my prelude once, and all i noticed was a slight decrease in performance. try adding some octane boost or something.
edit: i think you're supposed to add the octane boost to the car before you fill up the tank though

You can add octane boost anytime. Depending on how much gas she got your best bet is top it off with premium, then add a few bootles of octane booster, sincea single bottle barely boosts the octane. Anyway the low octane gas that she bought is the reason your car is knockin. Handle that ASAP as it's not good for your block.

All you have to do is add 94 octane from sunoco - try to add as much as possible...........also add octane booster ( you can add anytime you want).....atleast try to get the octane rating to 90 or somethin.

I have been through 3 tanks of gas, and have tried the octane boost. that has not seemed to help. should i look into some sort of rebuild? its a h23 , maybe time for a h22? Just need peoples advise. The local honda shop said its fine, but the knocking is so loud i cant stand it. I live in Near Seattle Wa, if anyone can help.

I have a 98 and the dealer put in reg right after I bought the car out of courtesy. Granted it has a knock sensor, it still ran shitty. After a few tanks of gas things came back to normal. Be patient.
Don't slap her...
Here's the deal...
Running lower ocane fuel will make you more prone to detonation, but honestly, on a stock engine running say 87 will most likely not blow your engine unless you are out driving like a moron. Detonation related to low ocane is usually a pinging sound, spun bearings are more of a knocking sound. Running a lower ocane gas on a stock engine once is most likely not going to generate enough heat to spin your bearings. You may want to drain your oil and inspect it for shavings. The blown engine and your gf driving may just be one of those strange coincidences.

Yes.... it's a great engine to turbo. I'm currently doing 4 h23a turbo builds right now. If you are interested, take a look at my site and you'll get an idea of what is attainable with the h23a.
Try a leakdown and compresion test and as suggested check ur oil for shavings. Also maybe try reseting your ecu? Maybe it sensed the knock and did something to his timing? Is that possible?
if you have gone through 3 tanks, its not the fuel.. It also shouldn't sound like a VW.. Just curious, have you changed the spark plugs, they could have fouled from the detonation that was initally caused..
