Dissapointed
Well a friend has a Dodge dump truck that has a built 440 in it. It's a nice motor for sure but this is an 8000+lbs dump truck dually no doubt. Well I was riding in it with him the other day he had it in fourth idleing up a hill about 20mph and got on the gas hard and from idleing up a hill in 4th it accelerated faster than my Honda does from a dead stop. If you had it in the gear it was supposed to be in it was way way faster than my honda and would throw you back in your seat.
Now my accord has bolt ons and not a lot else vs. his 500hp motor but I mean it's an 8000lbs dump truck. This just reminded me how much I hate this Honda I guess.

Did he happen to drive into a gas station while you were with him. Seeing what that cost would make you like the Accord a lot more, I suspect. You have a 4cyl. family car. What did you expect?
instead of telling us how much you hate your family car, why not sell it ang get another one? No one really cares that you hate your car.....It's a family car, not a speed demon.
The truck's gearing is by FAR lower and it has over 3X the horsepower and only 2.5 X the weight so of course it's going to accellerate faster......

Some people hate Honda because it is Honda and has a large hardcore fanbase. These people buy Hondas as daily commuters and then WANT to find a reason to dislike them.
He says he only gets 8mpg which isn't bad but still. i'd rather get 8mpg and have something that quick than get the 21-22 I get now and have something loud and slow. I'm really wanting something with a V8 besides my Ram I have now and it doesn't get much better than 8mpg and I find myself driving it more and more it just doesn't have much power due to the bigger tires put on it.
I just don't think I can get enough from my Accord to buy anything worth a ****. How much power can I expect to see from a turbo? I've thought about one but not really sure I'd be happy with it as right now I really think I want a V8.

what am i missing? comparing a family econo grocery getter that is fairly stock to a big block truck.
with a turbo and stock block you can push about 250whp conservatively. now with any motor, if fully built the potential is endless.

Yea but while it is a big block it's in a dually dump truck for gods sake. That in 4th gear at 20mph when it should be in 2nd and still being faster going up a hill than my Accord I find unacceptable. Not to mention and it been put in second it would have been a hell of a lot faster. I didn't expect my Accord to be anywhere near as fast but I did expect it to be about as fast as that was doing 20mph up a hill in 4th gear and getting on the gas hard. I mean wtf I still don't think it should have been faster doing that than my Accord is accelerating on flat ground from a stop.
I'd hate to see what this motor would do in a car. Basically I'm getting tired of having to rev my car up to hit the vtec to get it to go anywhere. It doesn't have any low end and is still slow as expletive when it does hit the vtec and I guess it's just getting old.

Waa Waa Waa. If you've kept your car in good shape, you can sell it (Honda's have great resale value), and get a domestic car with a V8. Or go buy yourself a great big pacifier. Stop crying, and do something about it. You should have known the Accord was not powerful when you bought it (4cyl. family car). Duh.

Well to settle this an accord isn't fast compared to my Buddy's v8 dump truck.
Have your friend load his dump truck with some concrete up to the side-rails and hook a ingersol rand air compressor to it.
I will put my son in his car seat load the trunk with groceries and put my girlfriend in the passengers seat.
Ever since both vehicles are loaded to their intended use lets line them up and put a hundred bucks on it.
Anytime your ready. We can film the race with my camcorder and review the results in your home theater.I'l buy the beer with my $100

As for the 8mpg I'm used to getting it with my lifted Ram with the 360 now. I will agree the Accord is much more reliable though. Thats about the only thing it has going for it. Other than the air conditioner and brake rotors I haven't really had any problems that wern't caused by me. Well some little things but not too many. It seems to quickly eat rotors though.

Mine kills rotors to.A few days ago I was at a junkyard and found two brand new ones still in the box in the trunk of an accord. The guy ony charged me 25 bucks for both of um.*L* I had him qoute me the price before I brought them into the office.*L* dude was pissed
quit your whining and work on your driving. big freakin' deal the dump truck is faster than your car. you own one of the most stolen cars in America, that says something. be happy with what you got
I have one word for you... begins with W, ends with A.
WWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAA!!!
You said it yourself that the 440 was fully built where as your Accord is pretty much stock

maybe not fully built but it is pretty built putting out around 500-550 hp. My accord is not even putting out 200hp but still. It's also 1/3 the wieght. I just don't see how anyone can like driving a Honda. A built Honda with $10k into it would still be slower than a Camaro or similar with $2k into it.
Above 4k on the tach is a lot of fun but the car has nothing below 4k and really gets shitty gas milage if you drive it to get it above 4k rpms.

Ive heard several reports from people getting around 28mpg in there LS1 Camaro's if they drive them easy. I may not drive my Honda that easy but you really can't as it doesn't go in low rpms I about get run over by mini vans but I only get around 22-23mpg. Of course if you drive the Camaro hard it does get slightly worse than that. I really don't think this Accord gets very good gas milage there are lots of V8's that get as good if not better gas milage.
