Default Amp on box

Would it be a bad idea to mount an amp directly onto a 12" sub box?

The sub box is not the ideal place to mount the amp, there is a lot of vibration there all the time. 94

yes sir, the vibration is bad for the amp. It's much better to mount it to a more "stable" location. Such as the rear seat.

I say yes, it's a bad idea for one reason.

What's gonna be harder to jack, an amp mounted to the sub box already? Or an amp mounted under the passenger seat?

Ok sol, where would you mount two amps in a 96 civic hatch?

The two amps are a Hifonics Brutus BX1000D and (hopefully, dont have it yet) an Alpine MRV-345? One under the driver seat and one under the passenger seat? Want it as unconspicuous as possible ofcourse.

Yes under the front seats would be a good place, but it you really don't want to do that. Build a 3 inch tall false floor in the trunk, with cutouts for the amps, and then carpet the entire thing, and just cut the carpet on 3 sides of the amps (so a flap of carpet coveres the amps, so you can pull it back and access the wires, dials, etc.

That wont work with keeping the spare. Its my daily so in a case of a flat, i want to be able to get my spare. The amps would cover the whole for the spare to come out. Remeber, its a hatch and all that trunk floor is 80% spare tire. There is just little edges around.

They way i was going to do the trunk was do a 3/4" MDF false board and connect the sub box with a piano hinge to the false board. Then cut a removable circle piece of mdf and be able to take it out in order to get the spare. The box would be able to swing up with the rear seats out of the way.

With that circle being removable, there is no extra room to place any amps. i think under the seats my be the only place

Could work... build a false floor on top of the spare....

mount the amps under the front seats. I had a jl 1000 under the passenger seat of my EK and it fit just fine. just tell the people in the backseat to watch their feet!

I've also seen someone build a false floor when passengers put their feet in the back seat. It looked sick.

I was thinkin of that too. I dont know how obvious that would look from outside. Somebody realizing that the carpet is higher than normal

That would be nice though, just take off the mdf false board to adjust the amp, better reaching under the seat. What about overheating though?

i usually mount them straight to the speaker, so when the speaker moves so does the amp to help keep it cool.

Hey Got No Sol your a ******* dumbass, the reason why you dont mount the amp on the sub box is because of vibration, it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone jacking anything. Maybe you should invest in a car alarm. Now for mounting amps under seats, amps need lots of air to stay cool. So what happens with you turn on your floor heat? You choke your amp. If you go that route make sure you give your amp another fan to cool it off, because no one likes there amp to shuting down.

Before you stick your whole leg in your mouth, notice one thing: I didn't say it was "the only reason". Now know a couple things:

1. My reason is valid.
2. Vibration could potentially be an issue, but if you're buying a quality amp it shouldn't matter if it's on the box or not, but then again if you're buying a quality amp you're probably not mounting it on the box
3. As for heat, again a good build quality amp will not overheat under most seats, but then again that depends on the amp, and also what impedance you're running it at.
4. If that alarm reference was aimed at me, three things
1) An alarm is not going to prevent someone from doing a "smash and grab"
on a box/amp combo. What's going to be harder for a person to smash
and grab? A box/amp mounted together or a box in the trunk and an amp
under the seat?
2) Basic alarms just make noise until you cut the power wire
3) I have an alarm, a very good one.

Now carbonciv, don't talk **** before you know who you're talking to fucko. I sell car stereo's for a living, and I know a little bit

Here is something else to think about No0b, any good installer would plug the floor heat vent if an amp was being installed, I have installed 100s and I do mean 100s of amps under seats, and have yet to have one come back with over heating problems.
So as got_no_sol tried to say STFU. 94

actually you are a dumbass, dont come in here and talk **** like that. I agree with got no sol, in fact when customers at my store ask me if they should do that I tell them no for the exact reason.
not to mention, it isnt like you are running your heat in the dead of summer when amps are already subjected to high ammounts of heat, even if you didnt seal up the heat duct like FCM suggested it still wouldnt reach the operating temps it would during the summer.
