Smells like syrup.
Well Im starting to get that syrup smell when I turn the heater on. Im guessing its Rad fluid leak; My temp needle rises almost to hot everytime also.

STOP Driving when that happens!!!! You may as well check for coolant in the oil also. Headgasket can go driving the car that hot.

Picked up some BAR's Leak and it stopped the leaking and engine temp is normal again. Anyone ever heard or used this stuff? it's an additive to your radiator.

A. Sounds like you need a heater core.
B. Radiator stop leak products are a very bad idea. It's band aid, not a solution to a problem. It basically creates clotting where heat escapes (i.e. your leak) They gunk up your entire cooling system and shorten the life of your water pump. The only way to get it clean again is pressure flushing the cooling system - several times.
