d16z6 question
hey, i just did a swap d16z6 swap on my 90 crx si, and my idle jumps.... and my check engine light turns on only when i start it... and temperature keeps rising. i forgot to bleed my radiator, can that be the problem??? but the idle jumps, when it's too low, it bogs out... the engine gets hot... and doesn't cool down even with the fan on... can vacuum leaks cause this problem?? because on throttle body, it has a place for the map sensor, but no map sensor.... i heard ef's map sensors are on the firewall or the engine bay... so i taped the map sensor hole, could that cause the problem?? and one more question, can i used my old crx si intake mani. with obd1 injectors??? i already cut out my resistor box so it should work on my old one right??

whoa lotta questions. 1st yes the coolant can have an air bubble in it and cause irradic idle, check that first, vaccum leaks can also cause Idle problems. And if your firewall mounted map sensor is not hooked up it to will cause problems, just use the EG map sensor that bolts to the throttle body and plug it up cause you don't need it on the firewall in this case. Your Si manifold should also bolt right up and if your injector plugs are wired for OBD 1 then yes you can run the injectors but I am pretty sure the d16Z6 manifold will flow better so I would use that one and just fix the map sensor issue, most likely that and your coolant are your only problems but you'll have to fix them first to be sure.

hey thanks... i actually put back my si manifold. the idle stop jumping around and it doesn't die out anymore. i think it was the eavc and some other sensors i didn't plug up on the d16z6 manifold because i ran out of plugs on my harness.. there's this one black thingy on the right side of the intake mani. that i didn't plug up maybe that was the problem. anywho, i bleed the radiator fluid and it was way better. but the problem now is that my temperature is rising...:-( you think it can be the water pump??? or thermastat??? how can you tell if your waterpump or thermastat is bad??? ohh yeah, if i put to much motor oil can that be the problem also?? i'm using a crx si dipstick and i'm not sure if the si dipstick is shorter than the civic ex dipstick? besides that it runs great, until the temperature rises.

Yeah sounds like a bad thermostat or waterpump, the thermo is so cheap & easy to replace that trying to explain how to diagnos it is almost pointless. Just replace it and see where that gets you, if your waterpump is going bad it should be dripping coolant from the "weep hole" which is on the bottom of the pump, just look at the pump from the back of the block (easier on a lift) and see if you can see any coolant trails that have been dripping, if so then replace the water pump (and timing belt, cam seal and crank seal while your in there)

hey... my bad... it wasn't the thermastat or the waterpump... it was my stupid fan relay... it didn't kick in.... now it works great.. temperature is low as usual... thanks for the advice and help anyways fellow H-T guys!!

hey, i have another problem... when i step on the gas, it feels like something is restricting me until it revs up to about 3k or 4k then vtec kicks in about 5k.... it feels like i'm not getting the full potential when i punch on the gas when around 1 or 2k... any ideas??? and why is my rpm faulty??? my idle is on 0 but when check the timing gun it was right on the line... any ideas??? so around 4k feels like 2 or 3k to me..
yeah, i am, but after the cat is a 2.5 inch piping to the muffler... you think my crx cat can cause a restriction?? is a civic ex cat bigger than a crx cat??? i don't know... i'm kind of pissed off right now... it only feels good when vtec kicks in... :-)
If your cat is bad it can cause your problem, when they go bad they clog up and prevent proper exhaust flow. Get underneath and tap on it to see if you hear anything loose inside, sometimes you have to remove to actually see if it is bad.

It will idle and run like crap, not hard to diagnos.

I am pretty sure if you are using the obd 1 injecotor you do not use the resistor box......that could be an issue..what ecu are you running...did you convert to obd1....you should just use your a6 dizzy so you can use the map on the fiwewall.....it is easier that or get an obd1 map sensor....just my 2 cents
my idle is pretty smooth... it goes up and down once in awhile... but my rpm shows 0 or 100... but i checked the gun and it's on the line... you think i can bring it up a little?? maybe that's why it's feel like a restriction. because my idle is at 100 or 200... but sounds o.k... doesn't feel like i'm bogging out or anything. feels fine.. when i bring up my idle to 700 it feels like it's at 1k or more.. any clue??
