anybody know how to fix this?(sway bar problem)
1995 Del Sol VTEC. front sway bar d brackets. one side of bracket is held on by nut, other side is a bolt that goes into subframe into a nut that is welded to subframe. that is a big runon, hope it is comprehendable. anyway, the nut welded to subframe stripped when i took bolt out. f!@#!!!
questions:anyone have any experience using a cold chisel to sheer one of these welded nuts off?
question:anyone have another solution that would be strong enough? i do not trust trying to rethread the nut. i have seen too many pictures of rear subframes being ripped at the d bracket.
thanks in advance. no luck with search.

Thats because they were running really thick sway bars out back with no subframe reinforcement. I highly doubt your subframe will tear with the stock front sway bar. Just because you stripped the nut and can't re-attach the D-bracket doesn't mean you are going to do anything damage to your subframe. You just simply won't have to benefits of a front sway bar.
Also, have you ever heard of a tap and die set?
And if that doesn't work, why don't you drill out the old nut and replace it with a nut and washer that fits the bolt that goes through it.

y dont u helicoil it. its simple and works. People use it to hold in spark plugs after they strip the head takin them out.
if your interested heres the process...
1. buy the helicoil kit sometimes called perma coil too
2. buy the drill size they say (example on the 11mm 1.25thread pitch one they ask u have a 29/64 drill bit)
3. Then u drill the old threads out with the drill bit
4. Tap the hole with the tap provided in the kit
5. Then theres a helicoil installer its usually black and at the tip theres thread that stops and u will notice that the helicoils lock up to it. You will know exactly what im talkin about if u get the little kit. Thread the helicoil in. TIP: use some thread locker. they are usually fine without it but i like the relief of knowing its thread locked and not goin anywhere.
This kit runs between $25-30 its well worth it in my opinion. Many bolts on hondas are the same size and pitch.

your other idea is good though, already thought of it, but good idea.</TD></TR></TABLE>
tap and die isn't rethreading... it gets broken bolts out.

well considering that they are factery mig welded...they're on there pretty good. tap and die. thats the best way to fix your problem. If you're not too concerned about taking the bolt back out (depending on how bad you stripped out the nut ) you can put a bolt with a size bigger thread and force it to cross thread ( not recomended but you can do it ) i personally would just re-tap it. good luck
