<sigh> Amber lighting - head units/iPod interface
Hi,
I have been looking for a head unit with amber back lighting and an iPod interface, so that I can match it up to the factory ITR backlighting.... but I haven't had any success. The new alpine unit looks really cool, but its only got those honking blue buttons, and white backlighting! I thought about going with something that wires directly to the factory unit, but I figured I might as well get something that gives me a little more power and is easier to navigate through the ipod with.
Anyone know another solution to this?
Thanks,
Jon

Search, people have asked this before. My suggestion is to use the CD Changer port to add an Aux In and then hook in your IPOD that way. I do this and it works fine.
the alpine cda9855 would probably be the most key choice but if ur ok with alittle silver on there any of the color clarion units would work out as well. gl

Correct. Also the Alpine interface sucks donkey ***** for navigation unless you have a screen to look at. I had it and I prefer to use the iPod to navigate. You can use the CD changer plug and buy an audio cable that turns the changer plug into two A/V plugs, then buy a cable that connects to it and has a headphone jack on the other end.
If you want to run a deck that cannot do the above then you can just hook up the second cable mentioned directly the rear of the deck.
That was a mouthful

Which Nakamichi deck would be best suited to be setup with the iPod, and how would it need to be done?
If I remember, when you set things up through vid/aux, you can only use the iPod to navigate through songs, etc..
white rocket - did you have the newer Alpine 9857... or was it one of the models with the long touch panel? I have also heard complaints about the ones using the touch panel, but the newer 9857 looks like it was designed much better. They also say its faster, because its a direct connection to the iPod... BUT - NO AMBER
Anyone have pictures of a 9857 or a deck with non-amber lighting lit up with factory amber interior... maybe its not as bad as I think?

I've got the Alpine CDA-9827 unit. Nothing fancy but all the options I needed to run an iPod. As for amber color decks, I dunno. Nor do I care really. As soon as I hit the track my stereo is coming out anyway.

Ive got the Alpine 9847 and it lights up amber. I don't have the ipod interface with it yet, so I don't know how it sounds, but the amber looks great! The only other color on it is white for the letters. It can also light up red, blue and green.

During the daytime, the buttons are blue, but at night they light up amber as well.

like a few others have said just get the cd changer adapter thats what i use......... its WAY too slow if you navigate through the radio..... its just way way easier to use the ipod itself
Are you dead set on not using the factory one? Thats the best way to do it I think, but I love the look of the factory radio. I've got my Ipod hardwired in and all the controls work on both the ipod and the radio to control it.
I have a Pioneer head unit that has adjustable back lighting that I can match to the stock backlighting and it looks great! I have my IPOD hooked into the aux in put and it also plays MP3s so it the iPOD dies I got back up.
I used to have 2 Apline head units but I dont have much luck with them and they both broke.
Then when I sent them in the warranty dept. said tough luck.

Clarion ProAudio DXZ655MP

This should be a perfect match for the lighting. It has a display with 728 variable colors. It also has an AUX input.

I love my JVC head unit, and you can use the aux inputs in the back and just run your wire around the front. You can even put tight car graphics on it (im obsessed i know) amber matches perfect!!!
