Looks like they were more interested in filming the thing than trying to put the fire out.

Or find a river, pond or swimming pool to get the nose into. I would drowned my car way before I would allow it to catch on fire. Thank heavens they got it all on video for the claims adjuster. I would have at least tried to **** on it or something other than just filming it.

Yeah, that's what I'd do... empty the extinguisher on it, and if it's still on fire or questionable, drive like a maniac to the nearest self-serve car wash, and probably call the fire department to meet me there. No way in hell would I just stand there and video tape it going up in flames... if I couldn't make it to a car wash, I'd be running to buy water or an extinguisher.

At first I was going to defend them... until I saw the extinguister they never appeared to use.
These guys remind me of TV reporters/cameramen, where they'll be reporting on some really dire situation, and appear to think they're above the situation, incapable of putting down the effing camera and helping people... but I digress.

I'm going to fill all of you guys in on why they let the car burn to the ground. In order to understand it, you have to have owned a vdub. See a Volkswagen is like that girl we've all dated that turned out to be psycho but we stuck with her for a while because she was good in bed or could cook or whatever. Then, you finally are tired of her crap and want her to cheat on you or do something so you can break up with her. Well, Volkswagens (at least in my experience) seems to just wear you down to the point you want to drive that sucker off of a cliff. With VW's, its always something, be it having to drop the motor to put in a clutch because the trans hits the frame rails or replacing the new water pump you JUST put on because it sat on a shelf too long and sprung a leak (no joke, that was the parts guys explanation), or my absolute favorite experience, the parts department manager at my local VW dealership telling me the cooling fan in my hands did not exist. Hopefully he got more insurance money than the car was worth(they depreciate exponentially daily)
When the officer showed up after my GTI lost a fight to a guardrail, he asked why I was so happy. I was like "I totalled my car!", I felt like a new man that I didn't have to own that headache any more. I was also glad that I didn't hurt anyone and that I was ok.

I guess that is an explaination and a darn funny one at that.

Hahahha. So true. After owning a VW, I got my Integra and my first concern was that it has a hell of a lot more parts, which I was expecting would break and I'd have to replace, because I was so used to fixing something every week on the VW, and it wasn't uncommon to have to keep fixing the same parts. My parents have a Jetta 1.8T... lots of problems, it only "performs" well for about a month after a tune-up, and there's exceptionally crappy service from the dealership. Apparently part of their oil change service includes adding dirt, because that's what I found all over the valve cover and under the oil fill cap. Well, seeing as how it takes them a whole day to do an oil change, I guess they have plenty of time to add their specially formulated dirt additives.
