Scratching, Rubbing Sound with clutch.
I have an 01 base manual w/ 44k miles. The car makes a rubbing, scratching sound when I engage the clutch at 1st gear only. It is not a grinding sound, so synchros ok. And only happens at complete stops or complete stops on an incline. Buddy mechanic of mine said possible loose heat shields. But I just want to get second opinions. The sound also doesn't come specifically from the tranny but from the whole car. thanks in Advance...
Just hop under the car and take a look its not hard to find loose heatsheilds. But why would heat sheilds only rattle at a stop while not giving the car any gas?

seems like a flywheel issue after doin some more searches. how much does it cost to get a flywheel resurfaced? or better wait to get new clutch?
