P73 ECU Gone bad ... any experiences ?
Hi folks,
I think my P73 threw a major wobbler. My fuel economy has gone to crap (-25mpg on a light run) + idle speed at 1500rpm.
All the sensors have been tested and are Ok. Has anyone had any experience with these going bad ? And if possible fixing them !
Thanks folks,

Has it been cold or snowy outside?
Heating up correctly ... stuck thermostat?

I'd look into other things as I've not really heard of them just up and going bad, but like any electronic device, it does happen. Was there a sudden change or did it kind of happen over time?
If you do decide you need a new one feel free to check my sig.

All the sensors have been checked, 100% sure that its not a sensor as my alt. ECU works (granted its not the correct one for the motor but it does enough to get the car to idle) It has been getting worse over time, now it idles at 1500rpm and has been getting higher for weeks.
I dont think any suddent charge hit it but to be honest ecu's are a mystery to me, testing sensors however, aint
Thanks folks, no one heard of this stuff going bad then ?

I dont get that? You are getting less than 25mpg? whats a light run? Not ragging the car too much? How's your air filter? fuel filter? How long since oil change? tires filled to the proper pressure? Engine running too cold/warm? Is this an ITR? Stock? built? More info would be nice.

Hi there.
The engine is a 97 B18C-R or whatever terminology makes it easier to know its an JDM ITR engine. The engine is bone stock running irridium plugs and an ebay special short ram filter till I can sort something more permanent out.
I have an OBD2B setup with OBD2B to OBD2A harness and 98 JDM ecu.
I consider a light run driving to work for a week not hitting into vtec once and driving below 3k rpm all week. This would be round town driving at approximatly 30-40mph. The engine is running, in regards to temp, fine, not out of spec. Its winter here, for the engine to overheat would be a neat trick, its near freezing most of the time
The reason I say ECU is at fault is because any sensor which could affect the ECU has been tested to death. I have seen the sensor output vs sensor ideals compared and read ok. As well as this the sensors have been disconnected and the ECU provided with dummy data as if to simulate a A1 sensor with no effect.
Im sort of running out of options.
All I know is that with the JDM P73 the engine idles high (1500rpm) and with my EM1 P2T the engine idles fine. <800rpm as per the norm.
There are no weak links in the ecu lead (I used a low ohm meter to test resistance and continuity tested the loom where possible) that combined with it being a boomslang OBD2B to OBD2a lead makes me believe the lead is ok.
If you need anything more detail wise please let me know.
Cheers folks,
