Military and Motorcycles
In a thread i recently saw some discussion on the military and it's rules on motorcycles. I pulled this off a government site and found it to be interesting.
RIP to those killed
PRELIMINARY LOSS REPORT 06073
MOTORCYCLE CRASH CLAIMS 1 SOLDIER’S LIFE – ACCIDENT
A USAREC Soldier was killed in a motorcycle accident on 11 February 2006 at 2300 local in Tucson, Arizona. The 26-year-old SSG was riding a 2004 Honda CBR1000 motorcycle when he lost control and struck a road sign. The NCO was wearing a helmet, gloves, over the ankle boots, and a reflective jacket
Including this accident, there were 22 Class A-C Army Privately Owned Motorcycle and All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) accidents in FY06 compared to 39 for the same time frame in FY05. These 22 accidents have resulted in 9 fatalities compared to 11 Soldier deaths for the same time frame in FY05.
Don’t let this happen in your formation. Consider these actions to help prevent similar motorcycle accidents:
ü Remind Soldiers that high risk times for accidents are between the hours of 2300 and 0500.
ü Brief Soldiers about how wearing a helmet correctly lowers a rider's risk of fatal injury by 29 percent and reduces the risk of traumatic brain injury by 67 percent. Emphasize that proper size and fit are critical to helmet retention (Motorcycle Safety Foundation pamphlet Information Paper on Motorcycle Helmets, page 3).
ü Remind Soldiers it takes a long time to become properly familiar with any motorcycle. While many bikes look similar, they may behave in completely different ways based primarily on their engine size, configuration and intended use. Please see the "PLR 0642 Motorcycle Accident Video" for additional information on what can go wrong when riding your motorcycle.
* Preliminary Loss Reports (PLR) are provided to leaders for awareness, trends, and TTPs. Our Army depends on you to disseminate PLRs to the lowest levels of your formation in order to help high risk troops understand the impact of decisions made on and off duty.

That sucks, but we here this info all the time in the AF. At least ounce or twice a month we get a saftey slide of someone being a retard and getting killed. Then we also get the ones where people were doing all they could to be safe and got hit or cut off or side swipped or something by a retarded cager.

Hahaa, well thats cool. You are definately going to the sandbox, luckily somehow I've never deployed and have been in 5 years come June. I remember my days of a PFC, well it didnt last long because I got promoted fast.
If your contract says airborne infantry. Then you will go to basic which is like a few months for you, then off to airborne school most likely at fort bragg or benning. I believe those are the only airborne schools.
Your gonna be hating georgia in the summer also, I was in basic in august 2001, and insanely humid and rainy at the same time.
goodluck though, the army opens up alot of oppurtunities. I plan to stay in the army, reserves for the meantime, until I graduate college. Hopefully I can get a e-6 or e-7 position. Then maybe become an officer.

I had a high stress, high intensity unit, and it was the easiest thing i have ever done. Getting in trouble is always fun too. Have fun!

Took the words right out of my mouth. Wait until the wounds from your "pinning-on ceremony" heal - then say your Airborne. Moohaha
