Who makes a good all around racing seat?
IM looking to get a new seat for my hatch.
Right now, i have the stock seat with the bottom cushion removed, and I like it but over long drives my neck gets tired.
I was looking at Sparco and they seem to have a good seat but they are expensive!
Are there any good seats in the 300-450 range?

I have a Sparco EVO that I bought used from ebay, and I'm very happy with it. The guy was local, otherwise it would not have been worth the extra $$ for shipping a used seat. Is this for both street and track use? Because a budget racing seat is probably not going to be as comfortable for long drives as a "street seat."
I suggest try looking for a used one on HT or ebay. It may be a little tricky since you can't take a close look, and unless the person is local you'll have to pay a lot for shipping. Also take a look at the Memory Fabs in the H-T vendor's forum. I think if you want ones with certification they cost more. But the ones they are advertising seem right at about your price range. I'm not sure how they are comfort-wise for long drives, but, it is a race seat.

First off, I'd highly recommend dealing with Louis at LTBmotorsport.com. He always exceeds my expectations, in both product and service. I'd never go anywhere else for anything he carries.
My recommendation, depending on your body size, would be the Momo Cup. I use the Cup GT, as I'm about 5'11"/210 lbs. The GT is a bit larger and a bit more expensive, but it is well worth it

The Momo Cup is one of the few fiberglass seats available in the price range.
I use an UltraSheild RallySport (aluminum) in my Miata - it gets me a bit lower than the FG seats, but also requires a back brace because it isn't FIA certified.

I've actually been really happy with the feel of my Momo Start. For the money ($280 shipped w/ slider rails from LTB) you can't beat it. It's FIA certified, so you can race in it w/o using a back brace. The cup might be a little more cushy for long drives though and IIRC it has a slightly more reclined back. Either way, I've been really happy with the Momo seats I've had and don't think you can really go wrong with them.

Even still some would prefer to have a seat that has been tested, since its what you sit on in the car. Theres no reason to go cheap when it comes to safety equipment and IMO (and others) a non FIA "shell" is really pointless.

I agree and am going to be runnning a racetech seat myself but tons of people on here run crappy aluminum seats that are not FIA approved and everyone thinks its fine.

word on the street is that a "FIA" shell is really nothing more than $$$ and a sticker.
I have been told that Bride, for example sells the same seats with or without FIA cert., but the FIA ones are a good bit more.

well the seat does need to pass the test to get the FIA certification, which I don't think is cheap. And as like anything else the FIA seat are also worth more. I don't know how much the actuall sticker costs per say but remeber there are some relativly cheap seats that have the FIA sticker (seat under 300 bucks) and thats retail.

Which FIA cert seat is it identical to?
Which FIA cert seat is it identical to?
Mfab has FIA certified seats in Japan we dont carry them here in the US cause there isnt much of a market for the price we have to sell them at. FIA cert isn't cheap. but all of our seats are made of the same materials and whatnot
drewbie... are you asking about the MFAB rails? they lower your postion about 2-4 inches depending on which section of the bracket you use.

Why won't MemFab spend the 10 cents to make a FIA label? If it's already been tested and approved, they've already spent the money. It would give us more options when it comes to getting a comp seat.
Does Memory Fab go by another name in Japan? I don't see it here with other FIA approved seats:

Cobra Suzuka, the first seat since karting that I felt like I really plugged into. One stopper from San Diego to Chicago on Progress coilovers.
I reinstalled the stock passenger seat for my co-driver but we ended up fighting over driving stints because the stock seat wasn't as comfy
