Default Bent Rims on Track

I did a search already for "bent rims" in this forum and came up with nothing. I was wondering if there is any detriments to running on bent rims (that still seal/bead well and hold air) on track for HPDE events. I need to get new tires, and two of my rims are bent. Need to know if i need to get them fixed or get new ones (currently on rotas).

Thanks in advance.

Yep. Losing tire pressure mid-session blows. I just dealt with that this past weekend, and it was not fun. You'll also eat through tires like nobody's business.

Yeah. They may seal in normal driving, but what about with heavy cornering forces? What if you hit a burm hard? I wouldn't chance it personally. If they're not cracked, you should be able to have them straighted for cheap.

D'oh, we're all tools. I just realized he's aware he shouldn't run like that, he's asking if he should get them fixed or get new ones. Go ahead and get them fixed, as long as they're not cracked. If they ARE cracked, new ones would be a better idea.

We have a shop here in Tucson called "Nu-wheel," but I don't know whether or not they're a chain. Cheap would be under $100. My teammate bent a panasport pretty badly and they repaired it for right around $100 I think. It may not be any cheaper than new depending on the rim.

... But it's a damn sight cheaper than buying a new Panasport. Figure about $100/rim, at least based on our region and limited experience.

YMMV.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm gonna try and get them straightened out, and get some hankook rs2s on them. Its the cheapest thing to do. Hopefully i'll get this done by thunderhill on march 11.

It really depends on what you bent and how bad... I slightly bent the lip on a couple of my aluminum rims, but it hasn't been a problem at all, and the car still performs extremely well. Of course, the main part of the wheels are still straight, so it's really just cosmetic damage.

How did it bend? Baring a major impact that would bend any wheel, your wheels where cheap enough to bend in the first place, I would get new ones. Especially since you want to go to the track, and have the wheels hold on to the tires.

Get them straightened. We've run Rota's and Konig on all our cars for 6 years now, some have even been repaired a couple of times. IM me and I'll put you onto someone who does a great job and guarantee his work!

check on pricing. Might be cheaper to buy wheel replacement than to fix.

Doesn't look bad? What looks good to you

If you have two rims to replace, it sounds like replacements will most likely be the cheaper option with rota's.

Thanks for the replies!

I've changed my mind and decided to just get replacements. Since rotas are cheap enough to just get replacements for bent rims. This way i can use those as "spares" if the need arises.

Edmoto: That sucks much ****. but to quote CRX-RX "what looks good to you? "
