Major issues with my timing!
I have a ZC
and my engine is making a terrible clanking sound.
And for the life of me I cant get it to stay on TPC
The crank pully and all is ******* off.
And when I spin the cams they just pop right back out of place.
Is this a trick to it that I don’t know about or something?
Cause I’m about to set my car on fire.

ok so again i woke up and i went out working on it. got it all TPC, cranked the motor, withen a few seconds the timing jumped.
i got a new timing belt, new tensioner, new water pump,
so what is causing it to jump?
dude im stumped. does anyone have a guess?
or know of a link with more info on this kinda problem?
any help is greatly appreciated

My friend had the same problem. We tried everything (tighten the timing belt over and over, TDC, and etc…). The only way to solve the problem was to take it to a shop. It was like $50-$70 or so.
with the valve cover off, and the cams as close to tdc as you can get them there is a little hole in each of the cams you can put a small screwdrive or a drill bit into. You can get both at tdc that way, and make sure the block is at tdc, and then put the belt back on and tigten that ****, then you can take the drill bits or whatever you put in out. Hope that helped. Because when the belts tight and both cams are at tdc the belt should not let the cams jump any, but with the belt untightened it is a good possibility this will happen, make sure when adjusting it for the proper tension that you dont turn it more then 3 teeth then tighten then turn another three teeth, and maybe one whole rotation then check the tightness of the belt

Your original problem was your cams where set to TDC with your block. Now you broke a cam. If it's not at TDC and you run it alot you will break valves, which is probably what happenened.
Also, you might of had B16 gears on there...they don't work!
If I were you I'd get some new gears and try again.

i didn't break it really. just where the CPS goes it. i chipped a nice piece of the end of the cam. and i don't have b16 gears, like i said i honestly am completely baffled by this i don't have the slightest clue what it is,might, could, should, or would be. i'm very close to giving up
