Default steering wheel shimmy??

im getting a vibration in the wheel when going 70+. so i got the wheels balanced yesterday and its not as bad but still noticable. what could be the possible things causing the shimmy?? i have a 95 coupe ex w/ 95 gsr's. stock tire sizing, 6/32ths tread all around, no uneven wear. any suggestions??? thanks

I have an '00 coupe and had a similar sounding problem. I had the wheels balanced and the guy that balanced them said one of my tires was unevenly worn due to worn out struts. He said that the struts going out causes the car to bounce more and can wear the tire like that. He also said it happens often in civics. I hadn't heard of it but I drove off with newly balanced tires just like you and the vibration was less but was still there. I had one low-end new tire put on in place of the one he said was worn unevenly and the problem went away. I'm not sure if this is the solution to your problem but it sounds similar. I only have 79k on my car but I am going to throw some aftermarket struts on because it's about time for some new ones. Hope it helps, maybe a shop will check it out for free if you don't know what to look for. Good luck!

run your hands backwards over the tire... opposite of rotational direction... if it feels like it bumps up and down and is not smooth.. you have "cupping" and that could cause it

when was the last time you had a alignment done? has the car ever been in a wreck. i have owned a few salvage cars and they all drove pretty smooth but a miata i had (must have previously been wrecked in the front) in the higher speeds above 70 liked to shake and felt like it wanted to throw me off the road. my solution was to take it going 90 around a corner with gravel and fresh coat of de-icer(makes the road slick the first 24 hours) well i ended up thrashing it and my friend wasnt belted in so i got to watch him fly over me. luckly neither me or my friend got hurt. we hit the curb pretty hard and slid around for awhile before i rolled it on the side. so my word of advice is dont do anything stupid while going 70+ becasue your car wont handle the same lol.

I had my wheels balanced onced and the steering wheel still shook. Turns out that the place sucks at balancing wheels, so I took it somewhere else and problem was solved.

one thing you guys are forgeting is how are his motor mounts? broken mounts will cause shaking, as well as axles, bad alignment. trust me i speak through experience.
