Well, Its Finished. Mostly. I Think.
Assembly is complete, thus starting the never ending phase of race car uncompleteness ('cause a race car is never really "finished"). But here it is, with a finished price under $2000, and some unused items that we can still sell if we need room in the $2006 budget.
The car ("Black Betty")

The Koni Suspension (all used parts)

The Interior (I didn't do much here as it was in great shape, but note the $32 Momo wheel from ebay)

And my Dry Cell battery install that totalled up to less than $100 for everything (the battery is used).

The car makes its maiden voyage, other than trips around the neighborhood, at the SE Divisional in Valdosta this weekend. A divisional isn't where you want to test a brand new car that hasn't run since 2002, but thats how the schedule fell out. Our goal is to finish all 12 runs (2 drivers) without breaking anything or yelling at each other. We fully expect to finish dead last and next to dead last.
As the car sits now its ready for the $2006 Challenge. The only question is the wheel/tire combo. We have a choice between the 2nd hand Azenis and $55 Konigs that are on it or some 225/45/13 Hoosier Road Race takeoffs on 13x6 wheels. Testing and weather for the Challenge will determine what we choose.
Things we learned...
1. Ebay is your friend.
2. Be patient young Jedi. It may take months, but you will eventually stumble across some dirt cheap pimpy parts.
3. Even modern Hondas can have electrical issues, especially if they've been the victim of shade tree engine swaps and stereo/alarm installs.
4. 3M 1200 Grit polishing compound ownZ your ***.
Things we still have left to learn...
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
...
Finally, there's a shitpot of quality labor and knowledge in this car.
Thanks to The Team!!!

Blake Meredith
Renee Hines
Lee Grimes (He's not really technically "on" the team, but we don't know what we'd do without him)

Yep.
And 10 months.
And god knows how many man hours.
We have less than $2000 in it, but its worth a helluva lot more than that. If I were paying for the labor of the team members, including myself, the labor cost would easily double that figure.

I didn't get that decal yet!!!
It'd better come tomorrow. I'm not sure we can run the car without it.

That is a beauty. You should pwn the auto-x and especially the concours, that thing looks damn clean. But what's your wheel/tire plan for the drag portion of the $2k6 challenge? You're going to need to get a serious 60ft time to have any hope of a podium.
Needless to say, I'm jealous of your "cheap" and lovely CRX. Mine is expensive and ugly. Way to go Trevor, Blake, Renee, (kinda) Lee, Christian, and of course Scott!

Thats a secret.
The plan is to just survive the drag portion. I fully expect that there will be some sub 12 cars there, and we'll be happy if we break a 16.
But we do have a FREE drag tire plan. It may be a gross failure, but what the hell...

That is ridiculous! It's what, a 3 hour drive? And it takes the USPS 4 freaking days???

Zero rust.
The car came complete with an Oklahoma tag
.
The paint looks alot better in a picture than it does up close and in person, but it has about 20 hours of scrubbing and buffing and polishing in it and its officially declared as "good enough."
But up close... It still kind of looks like ****.
The windows are very heavily tinted. Illegally so in Georgia. But I think thats why the interior is in such primo shape. I haven't seen an all original CRX that looks as good as this one on the inside in years. It was the killer selling point when I bought the car.
The seats and even the floor mats are damned near perfect, and I can probably get big bucks when/if I decide to sell them.
