Default keeping a drycell battery in the trunk

Well, my optima battery took a **** on me after sitting around for a few months, and I need a new battery. i had the optima relocated to the back of the car and screwed down onto some plywood that replaced the stock plastic piece. no battery box was used.

well, i am looking into the oddysey batteries http://www.odysseybatteries.co...t.htm , and I would like to mount it in the same location as mentioned. This is for a daily driver vehicle, and since the battery is a dry cell, I would think it would be safe to keep inside the car (was i slowly getting cancer with the unventilated optima?). Am I correct about this, or should I figure out how to fit that thing in the engine bay, or as a last resort, buy a battery box?

all comments welcome

sealed battery- no vents, no cancer.

but i'd make sure it wasn't going to turn into a projectile in an accident wih your plywood mounting.

ps, that is a REALLY big battery for an ef.

it is pretty big, but one size down is less than half the size of the one in the link. My friend has to do 1 or 2 recharges a month on the smaller battery in his h22 accord.

thanks on the sealed battery issue. it just bugged me out, b/c at Murray's the battery had a warning on it about the "lead battery recognized for causing cancer in California, blah blah", but it's sealed, and that confused me.

Unless you have the battery box ventilated to the outside that's not going to be any better anyways.

the vented box kits come with everything you need to vent to atmosphere outside the car for people who don't run a sealed battery (but why?), or if your race class still requires it.

imho, the most important thing is how it is tied down. batteries ar seriously heavy, and not somehting you want to worry about flying around in an accident.
