CEL codes? for an JDM h22 in an EG. thinking of buying
I'm thinking of picking up a EG with an H22 in it, JDM bottom end with USDM head.
Anyway it's having some issues, here's a copy/paste from the sellers ad:
the throttle response is kind of slow
and sometimes backfires
and cel codes
6 10 12 21 36
He said it backfires sometimes when going down hill or when you are shifting near redline.
Said he took it to a shop and was told: replace water temp sensor and iacv.
Seller says: i would just replace complete intake mani with everything on it so you dont have to guess
but i have hard time finding one
thats complete
He also said the shop said the ECU/Wiring is good and timing is correct.
Does this sound like it just needs a couple sensors? Or does it sound like a big headache?
I'm a VW guy, but I want to pick up a swapped civic for track events.
Not sure if it matters but the car has an intergra dash and cluster and a p13 ecu.
oh well heres a link to the FS ad: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1450057
thanks
Fred

If you buy that - you're an idiot. NEVER buy a car with problems - because i guarantee that there will be more problems after you 'fix' those.
And you want to replace all the sensors on the IM? Expeeensive............

thanks for the info man, I've had this little voice in the back of my head telling me no. It's just so hard to find a good swapped hatch around here for less than $4k

Thats 'cause you won't. $4,000 for a hatch w/jdm h22? - i don't see it happening. I suggest you try to find a hatch with 200,000 miles on it. Then buy an h22 and swap it in. Could very well be under 4k in the long run.

yeah. But still $4,000 is kinda pushing it. Hondas and acuras have a really good resale value. I bought my 94 for $5,600.
Any car with an engine swap (major modification) will probably cost more than 4,000 unless something is wrong. THe odds are, if someone does a swap on their car - they'll most likely have other things done - including exterior work. This all takes that value and raises it. So, i say buy a cheap 200k mile hatch and swap your own engine in it. You can probably find a good hatch for $1,000 - if it has really high mileage. Then buy an engine.
