Default who runs with NASA Midwest?

So i've been putting in all the dates into my outlook calendar the last few weeks for all the races and HPDE's i can find in my area. I notice that NASA Midwest is starting to run in my area at Mid America Motorplex, as well as Autobahn Country Club.

for those of you guys who have run with NASA midwest, what kind of turnout should i expect? i'm interested in both overall #'s and how many Spec Miata's show up. I don't know any SM's around here that race with NASA, but that doesn't mean nobody does (and if nobody does, maybe i can steal a cheap podium finish )

what about the x-over event at Autobah CC, is that a bigger turnout than usual?

what about stuff going on other than just the race? i know with SCCA we always have dinner and a party on saturday night, as well as most people show up on fri night and do our own partying.

anything you guys can tell me about anything that i can't find on the NASA website is appreciated.

<------really looking forward to this season.

Ask Wai and/or mstewar, and try posting on Midwest and SM pages on http://www.nasaforums.com

Depending on how things start off with the SCCA this year, I may be running my SM or H1 car at MAM with NASA. I'm up in Ames, IA which is about two hours away from MAM.

Raise hand.

Since the Midwest region just started, the turnouts aren't very big yet. There were probably 3-4 SM IIRC?

The crossover event at Autobahn in July would be BIG from what I heard from the directors. They have already lined up with many sponsors and prizes. I am looking forward to that.

Also, since the race turnouts aren't very big, we usually get grouped with the Big Bore guys. So gotta be more careful checking your mirrors. Some of those AIX, or Radicals would lap you QUICK!

well, none of the events i'd consider going to conflict any of my other major events, so maybe i'll see you out there wai. i wonder what the sponsors and prizes are? if there are only 3-4 SM's showing up, and toyo is giving away some tires for the winner, maybe i can make the trip pay for itself!?

i'd like to get to autobahn sometime, maybe this would be a good chance.

not a problem, we get grouped with ITE cars around here sometimes. that means old Speedvision GT cars, and a couple of Speed World Challenge Vipers, AIX/AS cars don't bother me.

when you say BIG what do you mean? 100 entrants, 200 entrants?

<----was overly ambitous at work yesterday, and next 2 levels up of supervisors are gone today.

From my understanding, it's big as far as the "event" goes, not necessarily the race entries. For example, they will have show cars and dyno in the paddock. But since it's a cross over event with OH/IN, and the sponsors are enthusiatic about giving out prizes, the race entries shouldn't be too bad either.

This event is more for the promotion of the new Midwest region. Not many people in our area know about NASA yet.

sounds like it might be a good time. are you going to attend?

i thought NASA was a business? who's this ***-hat that's running NASA Midwest that doesn't think he needs to promote his product in the absolute HEART of SCCA land?

I'll be running with the OH/IN region, so most likely no MAM for me.. but I'll be at autobahn!

definitely another possibility. you probably don't remember, but i got my start with MC. i'll have to look at the schedule and see how things fall, but i'd love to run with MC again.

the thing with NASA is they have 3 races per weekend, council has 1 iirc. if i'm going to tow out there, i'd probably want more than 1 race.

I better jump in on this. I'm looking to start running this year, not sure on what kind of car yet, but hopefully it will be fun & reliable.

I remember. You could run both ITA & SM, but you're right, it'd only be on Sunday as I think there's a Time Attack on Saturday.

wow, i'm surprised you remembered. you were all too gracious when i unknowingly came over to ask you questions right before your grid call. if we ever end up at the same track again, you get unlimited free beer from me.

i would like to race with council again (and with my good friend michael ashby, another MC SM racer), but i reside in kansas city now, and all council events are quite a haul for 1 day. but who knows, it might work out again sometime.

We know of this MEANB18 guy, and he knows of us.

license shouldn't be a big deal.. there are forms on the nasa website to send in to apply for the license if you already have one from the SCCA.. not sure on teching the car, but if you've built to the rulebook it shouldn't be too bad I wouldn't think..

Nah. This guy hasn't been on a road track with us yet.

If'n you autocrossed around here, you'd know him.

So you think I can't borrow Disco's trailer that is in secure storage and get my car to the track?

Heck, I'll just DRIVE it there.

Gotta get free tires somehow so I can afford an $1100 clutch, right?
