Default F22 oil leak.... rear main??

My parents have a 97 2.2CL with the F22 in it, and it developed a pretty bad oil leak. I replaced the VC gasket, as it was leaking, and also the oil pan gasket as it was also. Well those aren't leaking anymore, but there is still a leak from somewhere else. Most of the oil collects right where the engine and trans meet, and drips from a lower part of the bellhousing. I think it may be the rear main seal, but don't have the tools here to pull the trans in the garage. Does this sound like it may be the culprit? And does anyone know what a shop would charge to change the rear main seal? Thanks

I checked mine out this weekend.. Leaking in the same exact places. I figured it was my rear main.

If you've eliminated all other exterior oil leak sources (valve cover, oil pressure switch) and you're now seeing oil leaking from inside the bell housing; you've only two remaining points of interest.
Engine Rear Main Seal
Transmission Input Shaft seal (Manual) or Torque Converter Seal (auto)

Everything else will show up outside the Bell Housing.

I had the same problem with my 95. 2nd gear went out so I changed it when I put my new tranny in. Took me about 2-3 day with a floor jack for the tranny removal and install It was a bitch putting the tranny back on with it but other than that it was pretty simple. It was worth the work instead of paying $600.00 for a shop to do it. Atleast I know it is done right and eveything is torqued right

is it oil leaking or does it smell like ATF? I'm willing to bet your original inclination is the culprit.
