Default Whats the big deal with a driver and a car?

is there really that big of a difference bewteen a good driver, and okay car, and a bad driver and a good car? I can't redline in my rsx, and my friends hatchback civic, redlines to race me all the time, I'm a newbie to street racing and cars in general, and he can keep up with me? is there anyway I can change my car to redline? My friend tells me I need a different ECU or something, I can't remember

First off i predict this thread to either go one of three ways

1. Locked
2. 3 pages of flaming ( street racing, stupidity etc etc )
3. ... actually just number 1 or 2 is fine

I'll throw my .02 in now

If you had no arms and were in a 1000hp ferrari, could you beat a guy with 2 arms in a 95 civic dx with no A/C..........

when you figure that out... you get your answer

lol

Go do your homework kid. Seriously, I'm a high school teacher, and I have a feeling you need to focus on other things besides cars at this point.

Couple things you need to answer. First, is your car auto? Second, define "redline".

ok, look. reading your posts, im gonna say you have an auto base RSX. ill give you some real answers.
1. to change shift points you need a VAFC2 or something like it.
2. yes a driver makes a SHITLOAD of difference when it comes to a race.
3. go get a 5-speed, practice launching.
4. you can't redline cause your stock ECU won't let you thats why you need some expensive **** to mess with it.
good luck

if you want a real world answer to this question (like i did) go autocrossing http://www.scca.com . Take it off the street and find a region near you. Autox is about 90% driver. I could never catch my class leader, he's driving an 86 vw scirocco about 100hp but he is a better driver than me.

I have a manual, and what I mean by redline, is just give it more power, to 2nd or 3rd, not redline till 8000 rpm, but maybe 7.5, and the question was, yes I COMPLETLY understand if the cars are similar, in power and torque, and weight, but if one just has too many mods on it, and is a newb, its not that important. The other person, really shouldn't be able to catch up

There is no point of revving that high if you are not making power up there. Not to mention the rev limit of a stock block is set there for a reason. Take your stock a3 to 8k and sit back and enjoy the fireworks.
