What is the Difference between 1988 and '89-91 Civic Shocks
I believe the '88 front shocks are the same, it is just the rear shocks that are different. If that is the case, can a set of '88 rear LCA be swapped into a '89-'91 to make a set of '88 shocks work?
How much does it cost to have a set of Koni's rebuilt for racing application?
TIA

Yep. LCA's are around $60/ea from the dealer, with new bushings pressed in.

About $600 including converting the rears to externally adjustable, but not shortening the fronts. Lead time is about 8 weeks - PM 'CRX Lee' for more info - he kicks ***

So factory the rears are not adjustable?
Is it worth running stock Koni Sports with Ground Control over Tokico's and ground control until I come up with the money to rebuild a set?

I have 88 koni yellows, they are "compress to adjust" in that you need to remove them from the car to adjust them, by pushing the rod all the way in and turning it

Not *externally* adjustable - they need to be removed from the car to adjust.

There are three different rears for the '88 CRX/Civic and the Integra Type R:
8041-1164Sport- Externally rebound adjustable and available from any Koni dealer
8041-1164RACE- Short body, SPSS3 race valved, Externally rebound adjustable and available from any Koni dealer
8040-1078 Sport- Internally or "compress-to-adjust" off the car, not imported to the US for a few years but still some available through a few dealers who still have them

I guess the question I have now is whether or not going from Tokicos with GC to Koni Stock valve with GC is an upgrade, or should I not waste my time and just get them revalved first. If I should get them revalved first, I'm just going to have to save for awhile and get a new set that are already revalved.

Ah, HAH!
NOW I know why I have been having a hard time setting ride height w/ my GC's, it's because I need to "compress-to-adjust" off the car.
THANK YOU for this information, you solved a mystery for me.

I think it is still an unsolved mystery. The "compress to adjust" is a reference to changing the rebound damping and has nothing whatsoever to do with setting ride height at all. Sorry.

What are you doing with the car (street only, street and mixed track use, track only, etc.)? What kind of spring rates are you running? At what level if any are you competing? That is going to be the difference between what valving you'll run a Sport or RACE valving.
If you are buying new Sport dampers then having them shortened and race valved, the RACE units will only cost about 2/3rds to 3/4ths orwhat having teh mu;ltiple porcess done. If you are doing a lot of street use, not using huge spring rates on track and the budget is thin, go for the Sports alone now and revalve and shorten them any time at a later date if you ever decide you need it.

I run ITC, track only, 450lb front, 700lb rear. As far as what level, well, reginonal only 5-6 races a year, finished 3rd in points last year because I could run a full season. Bought a house this year, so full season is probably out fo the question. I know the rears won't be dampened enough, but the big thing here is I already run Tokicos, I figure the Koni Sports have to be better than the Tokicos. I'm buying the Koni's used.
