anyone that has used after market cams....do you set timing different then stock?
im having trouble setting my timing, and everyone keeps telling me it's because im using aftermarket cams. im throwing a code #9 (#1cyl.) and the lowest i could get my timing was 21*......do i need to do anything different to get my timing right?
also i have adjustable cam gears (right now there both set @ 0*) and i have a pr4 ecu.....the motor is a dohc zc

if you have code 9 and timing is advanced, your camshafts are not aligned correctly
Its easy to align the cams both exactly at tdc, take a tiny screw driver or drill bit and stick it in the whole on the cam shaft right next to the cam gear when they are at tdc and then put everything back together and both will be tdc. I had this problem where I couldnt get my timing right either and it was becuase the exaust side was off 1 tooth

That is how they show how to do it in the service manual!
