Vtec on GSR not working
I just recently bought myself a 98 integra gsr and when i took is for a spin i heard no vtec and no vtec power in other words vtec not working. i had my girl friends brother look at it and he thinks that the vtec selenoid screen is cloged up and needs to be changed. but i dont know what the problem is the car is running perfect but just that the vtec isnt working. Plz any help to solve this problem? i just want the vtec to work. And i have no leaks and oil is good. I also tried reseting the ecu.
Inorder to make the vtec sound of the b18c1 honda vtec motor is that first the motor has to be warm. Then you have to get the motor up to 5,000 to 5,500 rpms to make sure it is working.

i think i know that i was a a complete stop and i floored my car all the way up to red line and heard no vtec and now power difference which i know that the vtec isnt working or something is wrong but again motor is running fine and no leaks any info may help to solve this problem.
the vtec sound is like a carb getting about 2 times more fuel than needed and screems for more power. You can feel it when it is up to 5,000 rpms and your hiting the gas some what hard.

The VTEC engagement on a stock GSR occurs at 4400 RPM and is nearly silent and otherwise unnoticeable. You will hear the IAB (intake air bypass, secondary intake manifold runners) open at about 5600RPM. WIll it rev to redline when it is warm? If it does, you can pretty much guarantee that the VTEC lobes are engaging.

well i just bought the car so i havent done anything to it but it came with short ram comtec air intake, tein coil over kit and stock muffler. And yes i can get it all the way up to red line which is at 8100. but i should hear a poping noise or an increase in rpm some what similar to my prelude vtec but i dont. any help plz?
um. with a s.r.i. you should at least hear the IAB pretty well. is it throwing any cels? but why did you purchase a car without test driving it first? especially an integra.
Look into manual for the procedure of testing the vtec solenoid. Remember, the ecu wont engage vtec if certain criteria isnt met such as oil pressure, % thottle, and etc. You could CLEAN the vtec screen instead of replacing it. And yes, with that short ram intake, you should definitely hear vtec and the IAB engage.
P.S. You can always make a VTEC light. -=o)

Well if any thing is wrong then the check engine light should come on but why doesnt it if the vtec is not working? only thing im thinking of right now is the screen being cloged and if any wires were to be messed up some where along the line the check engine light should come on also. any help to have vtec working again?
ya my vtec is fucked to, i was unable to revv past 5 k, cleared the code (it was p1259 vtec circuit system failure (bank 1) )if i remember correctly, im geting an oil change tomorrow, any other ideas?
If your VTEC is not engaging, the car will fall on its face long before redline. If it pulls strong to the redline, there is no problem. A DC2 GSR is not going to announce its VTEC operation to the world. The dual-stage intake manifold silences VTEC operation quite a bit. As asked before, do you have any check engine lights?
do what the others said and make a vtec light. make sure its not working. sometimes i cant evan hear my vtec engage on my gsr when i am running open downpipe from the turbo. its just not that loud. the things that will make it not work are low oil pressure. and that wont always throw a cell. is your speedo working right? if the car is thinking your going below 20 it wont work. also what ecu is in the car. make sure the guy did not put a non vtec ecu in the car. evan if it revs to 8100 it could just be a chipped no vtec ecu.
