well i've done the other side(flywheel side) without removing anything.

just drilled alil hole in the seal, then used a bent piece of metal to fish the thing outta there. And tapped the new one in with a piece of wood.

but i dont think that's doable with that crank sticking out like that on the side ur trying to do...

just pull the oil pump

I had to drop the pan to remove the right side cover to get the real seal out ( it was baked in place ). Last night was up till 3am reinstalling the new flywheel/clutch. If I can stay awake , I will pull apart the front (left side) of the engine to find the leak on that side.
To get to the left seal on the oil pump, you have to do most of the steps to change your timing belt. That also involves taking the valve cover off.

This would be a good time to check/ and/or change the belts while it's all apart -fer sure!
The oil pump seal appears to be an o-ring (chapter 8 pg 3 of my service manual ) and liquid gasket.

I agree with Tad. You can do it the way he did or get a pick hook, it worked for me. Removing the the oil pump also works.

thanks guys. i forgot to mention this is a brand new jdm d15b, well it looks brand new but it has some mileage.

i was assuming the first dry start ruined the front main. ill just get the valve cover and timing belt off and everything and check it all out.
